The southern gate was bigger than the northern one.
Wider. More fortified. Two guard posts flanking the entrance and four guards visible with likely two more inside the post structure. The main commercial entry into Creslan from the lower road. Which meant these guards had seen everything the city produced and were professionally suspicious of most of it.
