Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: That's Why, Don't Be Itchy-Handed

So, the quest is just considered complete like that?

Kate listened to the system notification chime, her mind filling with question marks again.

So the so-called 'declining admission' actually referred to declining Dumbledore's verbal suggestion to enroll?

After completing a quest for the first time, she seemed to have somewhat grasped the patterns of this system.

[Main Quest 1 completed. Unlocking rewards...]

[Reward 1: Obtain Legendary Wizard Albus Dumbledore's fifty years of knowledge.]

[Reward 2: Obtain Legendary Wizard Albus Dumbledore's fifty years of combat experience.]

[Reward 3: Obtain Legendary Wizard Albus Dumbledore's fifty years of mana accumulation (Selection Not Recommended).]

Kate's eyes went wide.

Kate was shocked.

These rewards… weren't they a bit too generous?

Although the rewards were halved due to gender, this was fifty years of Dumbledore's accumulated ability!

Previously, she thought that aside from the Newbie Gift Pack, she could only obtain a target character's random ability by reaching a certain favorability value.

But now, completing a Main Quest allowed her to obtain a random ability from the character associated with the quest!

Then, if there were a few more Main Quests, and the scope of involved characters became a bit larger...

With all those abilities stacked, could she eventually grind Voldemort to death relying solely on her base stats?

Hiss… that mental image was a bit too beautiful; she didn't even dare to imagine it.

Seeing her habitually sinking into her own world again, Rand sighed softly and held back Dumbledore, who wanted to continue his persuasion.

"Albus, it is too late. Let the Young Miss go up and sleep first."

Dumbledore took a deep look at the little silver-haired girl whose eyes had suddenly lost focus. He furrowed his brows slightly but had no choice but to compromise.

"Miss," Rand quickly bent down and patted Kate's shoulder, "go upstairs and sleep first. We can discuss these matters slowly later on."

Kate's gaze gradually focused. She blinked somewhat blankly, and upon seeing it was Rand urging her to go upstairs, she revealed a faint smile typical of a young girl.

"Okay. Goodnight, Grandpa Rand. Goodnight, Mr. Headmaster."

She couldn't wait to try out the new rewards.

The two old men watched the little silver figure trot cheerfully upstairs. Only after hearing the door above close did they exchange a glance.

Compared to Rand's worry, Dumbledore's eyes held more confusion.

He had already realized that this girl was different from ordinary children.

Few young wizards at Hogwarts would suddenly space out in the middle of a conversation.

Combined with the isolated environment in which the girl grew up, it looked more like some kind of pathology.

"Rand, it seems you need to tell me exactly what has happened to Kate."

Looking at the solemn-faced Dumbledore, Rand smiled bitterly and shook his head, his wrinkled old face full of helplessness and sorrow.

...

After briefly rinsing her feet in the bathroom, Kate did a kip-up and rolled onto the bed, staring at the pale blue screen before her in a dilemma.

Any one of these three options would be a supreme treasure to anyone in the wizarding world.

But having the three options placed before her to choose from... that was a bit too difficult.

Whether it was Dumbledore's knowledge, combat experience, or even mana, they all required her to enter the magical world to be put to use.

Otherwise... she didn't believe a centenarian like Dumbledore would know Muggle knowledge like calculus.

Her mind, which had been dazed by the sudden appearance of the reward options, gradually cleared. Kate couldn't help but stick a finger in her mouth and start gnawing on it.

In the end, did the system mean for her to enter the magical world?

"System, can you reveal what the next quest is first?"

She tried to communicate with the system.

If entering the magical world wasn't mandatory, she just needed to pick option one. Having a bit more knowledge didn't hurt.

The text on the screen before her instantly faded, replaced by a new line of large text:

[Main Quest 2: Apply for a magical home tutor for a teaching period of one year.]

Ha, as expected!

Kate looked at the quest with a look on her face like she had a stomachache. She tentatively asked, "What happens if I don't complete the quest?"

[The system will be forcibly detached to seek the next host and help the new host become a Delicious Maiden.]

I told you not to use that shameful title, 'Delicious Maiden'!

[Because the Host's Spirit is insufficient, forced detachment will cause spiritual damage. 99% probability of death, 1% probability of dementia.]

...System, you are really direct.

Kate really had a headache this time.

It seemed her dream of slacking off peacefully in the future could only be thought about while dreaming.

She returned to the reward interface and stared blankly at the three options.

Since returning to the magical world was now an established fact, the first priority was to keep her little life safe under the hands of the second-generation Dark Lord.

Her gaze shifted to the third option.

[Reward 3: Obtain Legendary Wizard Albus Dumbledore's fifty years of mana accumulation (Selection Not Recommended).]

That final "Selection Not Recommended" was really concerning...

Kate asked weakly, "What does this hint mean?"

The previous options had never had this.

['Selection Not Recommended' means it is not recommended for the Host to select it.]

"...System, did you just say a bunch of nonsense?"

Kate tried hard to take deep breaths, striving not to be angered to death by the system before she was killed by the Dark Lord.

Knowledge could be learned anyway, and no amount of knowledge could block an Avada Kedavra to the face.

So, was only the second option left?

Combat experience... that did seem like it could increase her survival rate...

She scrunched up her small face, sitting cross-legged on the bed in distress, staring at the "Selection Not Recommended" on the third option.

Humans, they're just itching for trouble.

Your brain tells you not to poke the rice in the supermarket, but your hand has already poked every variety and even judged which one feels the best.

If the system hadn't added that sentence, she might really not have considered Reward 3.

Besides, compared to the exquisite control of spell casting, smashing people with fifty years of mana seemed like a pretty good choice, didn't it?

"I've decided," Kate straightened up and spoke solemnly. "I choose Reward 3."

In an instant, the room was engulfed by a storm.

The two old men talking downstairs sensed the commotion above. They whipped out their wands, and with a Crack of Apparition, appeared in the room.

"Miss!"

Seeing Kate floating in the air, lifted by the gale, her life or death uncertain, Rand subconsciously wanted to wave his wand but was stopped by Dumbledore's hand.

"Wait a moment, Rand." A strange light flickered in Dumbledore's azure eyes. "She is... having a magical riot."

But was such massive mana really existing within a little wizard who had just turned eleven?
