Davon's POV
"You did a good job, Tanjiro," I said, a dark smirk breaking across my lips. I slid the heavy briefcase across the table toward him. "You deserve this."
Tanjiro popped the latches, the golden light of the room reflecting in his eyes as he stared at the contents. "This is a hell of a lot of money," he muttered, running a finger over the crisp edges of the bills.
"Yes, and you will be able to get a lot more from me," I replied, leaning back into my chair, "as long as you stick with me and work diligently."
"Of course, boss," he said, snapping the briefcase shut.
"But there is still one problem." I narrowed my eyes, the warmth instantly draining from my face as irritation laced my tone. "Why didn't you finish the job? I gave orders to have Lucian killed, but you couldn't even manage that."
"I almost had him," Tanjiro defended, his jaw tightening. "I had him right where I wanted him before his woman showed up."
