Chapter 19 - Security Bleach

The red emergency lights painted the strategy room in a dim crimson glow.

Every monitor was dead.

Every network connection cut.

Only the sound of the building's alarm system echoed through the silent floor.

Adrian stood near the reinforced door, one hand gripping his gun, the other resting calmly on the desk.

Across the room, Elara checked the chamber of her pistol.

Click.

Loaded

Disciplined.

Professional.

Adrian whispered quietly,

"Three… maybe four."

Elara tilted her head slightly, listening.

"No."

She corrected softly.

"Five."

Adrian glanced at her with a faint smile.

"Your hearing hasn't changed."

Five operatives stepped out of the lift.

Black tactical gear.

Silenced rifles

They moved silently across the hallway.

Outside the door, the operatives stopped.

The leader placed a compact explosive charge against the reinforced lock.

"Charge set."

Another operative checked his rifle.

"Target inside?"

"Confirmed."

"Elara Moretti."

"Priority kill."

Inside the room, Adrian's instincts sharpened instantly.

He recognized the faint metallic sound.

"Explosive."

Elara moved immediately.

She overturned the heavy conference table.

"Cover."

Adrian slid behind it beside her.

The room went silent.

For half a second…

Nothing moved.

Then—

BOOM.

The door exploded inward.

Metal fragments tore through the room.

Smoke flooded the air.

Gunfire erupted instantly.

BANG BANG BANG BANG

Bullets ripped through the strategy room walls.

Adrian fired back without hesitation.

Two precise shots.

CRACK

One operative collapsed in the doorway.

Elara rolled across the floor, grabbing the submachine gun.

She returned fire.

RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT

The burst forced the attackers to retreat into the hallway.

One operative shouted,

"Fall back!"

Another dragged their injured teammate behind the wall.

Smoke filled the room.

The smell of gunpowder burned in the air.

Adrian reloaded smoothly.

"Professional team."

Elara leaned against the desk, breathing steady.

Smoke still hung in the strategy room.

The shattered door revealed the dark hallway beyond, walls scarred with bullet holes and broken glass.

Outside… the attackers regrouped

The attackers had taken positions.

A rifle barrel slowly appeared around the corner.

BANG!

The bullet slammed into the wall inches from Adrian's head.

Adrian reacted instantly.

CRACK

His shot dropped the operative in the doorway.

Elara leaned from behind the overturned table and fired a controlled burst.

RAT-TAT-TAT

Sparks exploded across the hallway as the attackers pulled back into cover.

Their leader barked an order.

"Spread out! Pin them down!"

Inside the room Adrian spoke quietly, calm even in the chaos.

"They're trying to trap us."

Elara's expression remained steady.

"Let them try."

She moved suddenly—sliding across the floor toward the broken doorway.

One attacker rushed forward.

Elara fired first.

BANG

The man collapsed before he could even aim.

The remaining operatives responded aggressively.

Two of them pushed forward together.

Gunfire tore through the room.

BANG BANG BANG

Glass shattered.

Metal desks sparked under the impact of bullets.

Adrian leaned over the table and fired with deadly precision.

CRACK. CRACK.

One attacker spun backward, clutching his shoulder.

Elara kicked his dropped weapon away before he could reach it.

Then—

Heavy footsteps thundered down the corridor.

Voices over radios.

Adrian's security team.

"Boss! Hold position!"

The attackers realized it too.

"Security incoming!"

Their leader snarled.

"Finish them NOW!"

Two operatives rushed the doorway.

For a brief second Adrian and Elara looked at each other.

No words.

Just perfect understanding.

Adrian covered the left side.

Elara the right.

The moment the attackers crossed the threshold—

Gunfire erupted.

BANG BANG

Adrian's bullet struck the first attacker in the chest.

He dropped instantly.

The second man aimed at Elara—

But she fired first.

BANG

Her shot shattered his wrist.

His gun clattered across the floor as he screamed and collapsed.

At that exact moment Adrian's security stormed the hallway.

"CLEAR THE FLOOR!"

Within seconds the remaining attackers were overwhelmed.

The hallway fell silent.

Bodies lay scattered across the floor.

Only one attacker remained alive.

The man whose wrist Elara had shot.

He was dragged into the room and forced into a chair.

His mask was ripped away.

Blood dripped from his injured arm.

Adrian stood nearby, watching quietly.

Elara walked slowly toward the prisoner.

Her steps were calm.

Controlled.

The man looked up at her with fear.

Elara leaned down slightly so he could see her eyes clearly.

Her voice was cold.

"Your master still believes I'm his student."

The man said nothing.

Adrian folded his arms, observing.

Elara continued.

"Go back to him."

The prisoner blinked in confusion.

She straightened and spoke again, her voice sharper now.

"Tell him something for me."

She paused.

Then delivered the message slowly.

"The girl he trained doesn't exist anymore."

Her gaze hardened.

"Now he's facing someone much worse."

Adrian stepped forward beside her.

His voice was quiet but dangerous.

"And next time he sends men…"

He looked down at the prisoner.

"…send more."

Elara gave the final command.

"Let him go."

The security guards hesitated.

Adrian nodded.

"Do it."

They cut the restraints and shoved the wounded operative toward the exit.

Terrified, he stumbled down the hallway and disappeared into the night.

Silence returned to the room.

Broken glass.

Bullet holes.

The smell of gunpowder.

Adrian looked at Elara.

"You let him live."

Elara crossed her arms calmly.

"Fear travels faster than bullets."

Adrian gave a faint smile.

"Then tonight…"

He looked around at the aftermath.

"…we just sent a very loud message."

Outside the building, the surviving operative ran into the darkness.

Shaking.

Because he knew exactly what he had to tell his master.

The war had officially begun.

## Aftermath – A Moment Between Them

The strategy room was finally silent.

Smoke drifted slowly through the shattered doorway. The floor was scattered with empty shells, broken glass, and the bodies of the attackers.

Adrian's security team moved efficiently through the hallway, checking corners and clearing the floor.

"Area secure," one guard reported.

Adrian gave a short nod.

"Good. Hold the perimeter."

The guards stepped out, leaving the two of them alone in the ruined room.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Elara was reloading her weapon when Adrian walked closer. His eyes moved over the room—the precision of the fight, the positions of the fallen operatives.

Then he looked at her.

There was something different in his expression now.

Not just strategy.

**Respect.**

"Five trained operatives," Adrian said quietly.

"Eliminated in under three minutes."

Elara slid the magazine into place.

"Four."

She corrected calmly.

"One walked away."

Adrian's lips curved slightly.

"Right."

He studied her for a second longer.

"You predicted their movements before they even entered the room."

Elara shrugged lightly.

"I trained under the same system they did."

She glanced at him.

"But you…"

Her voice softened just a little.

"…weren't supposed to be that fast."

Adrian chuckled under his breath.

"Disappointed?"

Elara shook her head slowly.

"Impressed."

For the first time since the attack began, the tension between them eased.

Adrian leaned against the edge of the broken desk, folding his arms.

"You didn't hesitate."

Elara met his gaze.

"Neither did you."

There was a quiet moment between them.

Not awkward.

Just understanding.

Adrian spoke again.

"You trusted me to take the left flank."

Elara replied without thinking.

"I knew you wouldn't miss."

Adrian raised an eyebrow.

"That confident?"

Elara's lips curved slightly.

"I watched you fight."

She gestured toward the hallway.

"You're terrifyingly calm under pressure."

Adrian looked amused.

"That's a compliment coming from someone who just dismantled a professional strike team."

Elara finally allowed herself a small smile.

"Maybe we make a dangerous pair."

Adrian straightened and stepped closer.

His voice lowered slightly.

"No."

He shook his head.

"Not dangerous."

He looked directly into her eyes.

**"Unstoppable."**

Elara held his gaze.

For a moment the chaos of the night faded—the broken room, the alarms, the war waiting outside.

There was only the quiet realization between them.

They had fought together.

Perfectly.

Adrian spoke again, softer this time.

"You know something?"

Elara tilted her head.

"What?"

He smiled faintly.

"Your former mentor made one mistake."

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"And what's that?"

Adrian's answer came without hesitation.

"He trained you…"

A small pause.

Then he added,

**"…but he didn't prepare for you having me on your side."**

Elara let out a quiet breath, almost like a laugh.

For a moment, pride flickered in her eyes.

Not arrogance.

**Confidence.**

"Good," she said.

"Because he's going to regret that."

Adrian extended his hand slightly toward her.

Not formal.

Just instinct.

Elara looked at it for a second, then clasped it firmly.

Their hands locked together—steady and strong.

A silent acknowledgment.

Two leaders.

Two fighters.

One side of the war.

Adrian squeezed her hand once before letting go.

"Come on," he said.

"We have a mastermind to hunt."

Elara picked up her weapon and followed him toward the doorway.

Behind them the destroyed room stood as proof of what had just happened.

Ahead of them waited something much bigger.

The war had only just begun.

But tonight had proven one thing clearly.

**Elara and Adrian were stronger together than anyone had expected.**
