Nyssa could sense the look of confusion and amusement on others, but she didn't mind it.
Even though her eyes were confident in this fight, her hands betrayed her state of being a novice.
It trembled on the hold of the sword.
Across the ring, the guard she had been training with watched her carefully, with those dark eyes that seemed to rip her soul out.
Kai was handed a sword and the guards shifted slightly, giving him space without being told.
That alone said enough. He was really skilled. Her pulse picked up, but not from fear, from awareness.
Kai stopped a few paces in front of her, his gaze sweeping over her stance, her grip and the tension in her shoulders.
"You seem to be wasting time," he said.
