Chapter 33 - CHAPTER 33: FRACTURED TRUST?

CHAPTER 33 — FRACTURED TRUST

Far from the battlefield where Tokita and Ragnar tore the sky apart—

Another battle was unfolding.

Quieter.

Messier.

Human.

The Presence

Aoi felt it first.

A shift.

Subtle… but distinct.

Not like Ragnar's violent Core.

Not like Tokita's overwhelming pressure.

This one was… gentle.

Steady.

Alive.

Her eyes narrowed.

"…Another ability user."

Without a word, she stepped away from the group and moved toward it.

Through the crowd.

Past injured civilians.

Past fear.

And then—

She saw her.

A woman in a nurse's uniform.

Kneeling.

Hands glowing faint green.

An elderly couple sat before her, trembling—cuts and bruises fading slowly under her touch.

Around them, civilians watched.

Not afraid.

Not panicking.

…Trusting her.

Aoi stepped closer.

Slowly.

Carefully.

She raised her hand—

About to make contact—

"HEY!"

The shout cracked through the air.

Aoi froze.

The Interruption

She turned.

The man.

The same one—the loudest voice among the civilians. The self-appointed leader.

He stormed toward her, anger written across his face.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he snapped.

Aoi blinked once.

"…Calm down," she said evenly. "I'm not here to hurt anyone."

"That's our doctor!" he barked. "You think we'll just let you touch her?"

Murmurs spread.

People began turning.

Watching.

Judging.

Aoi exhaled softly.

"I just want to talk to her."

"No."

The man stepped in front of her.

"You people have done enough."

The air shifted.

Tension Spreads

From a distance—

Natsuki noticed.

"…What's going on over there?" he muttered.

Kaito glanced over, eyes narrowing.

"…Aoi?"

Natsuki pushed himself slightly, irritation rising—

But Nezuko stepped forward.

"Stay down," she said firmly.

"I'll handle it."

Before he could argue—

She moved.

The Accusation

Back at the center—

Voices were rising.

"You brought them here!"

"This is your fault!"

"You monsters!"

The words hit sharp.

Ugly.

Unfiltered.

The man pointed directly at Aoi.

"That red-haired kid—he's your friend, right?"

Aoi didn't flinch.

"…Yes. And?"

"That's why this happened!" he shouted. "You people brought that thing here! You brought him here!"

Murmurs turned into agreement.

"You lured the danger!"

"Now you act like heroes?"

"Freaks…"

Something snapped.

A small stone flew—

Straight toward Aoi.

CRACK.

Nezuko caught it mid-air.

She stepped forward.

Eyes cold.

"What is wrong with all of you?" she said, voice sharp. "She's trying to help you."

Silence didn't come.

The shouting only grew louder.

On the Edge

Natsuki stood halfway up.

Electricity began to crawl along his fingers.

"…I'm done with this," he muttered.

Kaito grabbed his shoulder.

"Sit down."

Natsuki glared.

"They're crossing the line—"

"And if you go over there," Kaito cut in quietly, "what happens next?"

Silence.

"…You'll just make it worse."

Natsuki's fingers twitched.

Lightning flickered.

Then faded—slightly.

But not completely.

Clash of Words

Back at the center—

The man stepped closer again.

"It's still your fault," he said, voice low but sharp. "If you hadn't shown up—none of this would've happened."

Aoi's eyes hardened.

"…If we hadn't shown up," she said calmly, "you'd all be dead."

The crowd shifted.

Uncomfortable.

But still defensive.

Nezuko stepped beside her.

"We didn't have to help you," she added. "We chose to."

A pause.

"Remember that."

The man opened his mouth—

The Interruption

"...That's enough."

A calm voice.

Clear.

Steady.

Everyone turned.

The nurse stood.

Mira Aizawa.

She walked forward slowly… and placed a hand on the man's shoulder.

"Please," she said softly. "Stop."

"B-But Ms. Aizawa—"

"It's enough."

Her tone didn't rise.

But it didn't need to.

The man fell silent.

Mira stepped past him.

Toward Aoi.

Then—

She bowed.

"Thank you," she said.

"For saving us."

A pause.

"And… I'm sorry. For how they treated you."

Aoi blinked.

Caught off guard.

"…It's fine," she muttered.

Mira straightened.

"…What do you need from me?"

The Request

Aoi didn't waste time.

"…You're an ability user, right?"

Mira hesitated.

A small flinch.

Then—

"…Yes."

Aoi exhaled.

Relief.

"Good."

She stepped aside slightly.

"My friends… they're injured."

A beat.

"Badly."

Mira's expression shifted.

Concern.

"…I see."

"They need help," Aoi said. "Can you treat them?"

Mira hesitated again.

"…I can heal small injuries," she said carefully. "Cuts. Bruises."

Her gaze lowered slightly.

"But… if it's internal damage… or something severe…"

She shook her head.

"I might not be able to do much."

Nezuko stepped in.

"Just take a look first."

A pause.

"That's enough."

Mira looked between them.

Then nodded.

"…Okay."

Approach

They walked back together.

Past watching eyes.

Past silent guilt.

As they moved, Mira spoke quietly.

"My ability… it's limited."

"I can heal surface wounds easily."

"But deeper injuries…"

She hesitated.

"Even if I fix the outside… the inside can still be damaged."

Aoi nodded.

"I understand."

They reached the group.

Natsuki looked up.

Eyes sharp.

Guard up instantly.

Mira stepped closer—

And reached out.

Natsuki slapped her hand away.

"…Who the hell are you?"

Silence.

Aoi sighed lightly.

"She's a nurse. Relax."

Natsuki glanced at her uniform.

Then back at her.

"…A nurse?"

His eyes narrowed.

"…Where's your equipment?"

Mira bowed slightly.

"My name is Mira Aizawa."

"Nice to meet you."

Natsuki didn't respond immediately.

He looked at Aoi.

Then Nezuko.

They both nodded.

Slowly—

He relaxed.

Just a little.

"…Fine," he muttered.

"Do whatever you want."

Mira knelt beside him.

"Where are your injuries?"

Natsuki didn't hesitate.

"…Everywhere."

A pause.

Mira blinked.

"…I see."

And then—

Her hands began to glow.

A soft green light.

As her Core activated.

And the healing began.
