Amara looked like she wanted to disappear.
"I was going to tell you," she said softly.
"Tell me what?"
She swallowed.
"Daniel approached me first."
My chest tightened.
"When?"
"Almost a year ago."
A year?
My mind spun.
"What did he want?"
Her eyes filled with guilt.
"He wanted information about you."
My stomach dropped.
"And you gave it to him?"
Silence.
That silence was the answer.
Tears burned in my eyes.
"So you did betray me."
"I didn't know his real plan at first," she said quickly.
"But later…"
"Later you kept going."
My voice cracked.
Because betrayal from a stranger hurts.
But betrayal from your best friend?
