Lyra.
Something inside me broke.
Not from pain.
From power.
It started as a whisper beneath my skin soft, unfamiliar… and terrifying.
My breath hitched as heat spread through my veins, not the fire I controlled, but something deeper.
Wilder.
Alive.
I staggered back, clutching my chest.
"No… something's wrong…"
The world tilted.
The forest blurred.
My heartbeat thundered too loud, too fast, like something was trying to claw its way out of me.
"Lyra?" Darian's voice cut through the chaos, sharp with concern.
His hand reached for me but I couldn't feel it.
Because something else did.
A voice.
Low. Feminine.
Ancient.
"Stop fighting me."
I froze.
My breath caught in my throat.
"Who… who are you?"
Silence stretched for a heartbeat then heat surged violently through my body. I gasped, dropping to my knees as shadows and fire erupted around me, spiraling, clashing, merging. My fingers dug into the earth, nails sharpening, lengthening into claws.
"No no, this isn't....this isn't me!"
I cried out, panic rising.
"It is you."
The voice was clearer now.
Closer.
Inside me.
My eyes widened as the realization hit. "You're… inside me?"
A soft, almost amused hum echoed through my mind.
"I have always been."
My chest tightened.
"No… that's not possible… I would have known…"
"You were asleep," she replied calmly. "Buried.
Waiting."
The power surged again, stronger this time, and I cried out as flames licked across my skin without burning me, shadows wrapping around my limbs like a second body.
"Make it stop!" I gasped.
And suddenly.
Everything slowed.
The fire dimmed. The shadows softened. The pain faded into a low hum.
A presence wrapped around me.
Not suffocating.
Not violent.
Protective.
"Breathe, Lyra."
My chest rose sharply.
Then again.
Slowly, the panic loosened its grip.
"I… I can't control it…" I whispered, trembling.
"You're not meant to control me."
A pause.
"We are meant to be one."
My hands shook as I looked down at them fire flickering between my fingers, shadow curling around my wrists like it belonged there.
"What are you?" I asked, voice barely steady.
For a moment, she was silent.
Then.
"I am Nyx."
The name echoed through me like a pulse. Ancient.
Powerful.
"I don't understand…" I whispered.
"You will."
A warmth spread through my chest not heat, not fire but something deeper.
Familiar.
"The bond awakened me," Nyx continued. "Your blood… your species… it was never ordinary. You are not just wolf, Lyra.
You are something more.
Something rare."
My breath caught.
"Because of Darian…?"
"Because of what you are," she corrected softly.
"The bond didn't create me. It freed me."
I swallowed hard, trying to steady the storm inside me. "And now what? You just… take over?"
A quiet, almost teasing response:
"Only if you let me."
I blinked, stunned.
"You're… asking?"
"I protect what is mine."
Something in her tone mirrored Kael's possessiveness but different. Not consuming.
Not overwhelming.
Balanced.
"And you… are mine, Lyra."
I let out a shaky breath, heart still racing. "This is insane…"
"This is truth."
Another pulse of power surged through me but this time, it didn't hurt. It flowed. Smooth. Controlled.
"Trust me," Nyx whispered.
I hesitated. Fear still clawed at me but beneath it… something else stirred.
Strength.
Power.
Belonging.
Slowly, I nodded. "Okay…"
The moment I accepted it.
Everything aligned.
Fire and shadow no longer clashed.
They moved together, weaving, breathing, alive. My body felt lighter, stronger, sharper. Like I had finally stepped into something I was always meant to be.
Then Nyx spoke again, soft.
"Now let's fight".
**************
The predator slammed into the ground with the force of a collapsing mountain, its roar shaking the trees around us.
Darian's shadow flared violently, wrapping around me protectively, but something deep inside me snapped.
A fire ignited not the fire I could summon with my hands, but something ancient, primal, and alive.
I gasped as my body trembled, claws digging into the earth, nails sharpening like talons.
Nyx: "Lyra… mine… let me fight… let me claim!"
Me (Lyra): "Yes… Nyx… yes!"
Kael growled in response, low and possessive, vibrating through Darian's every muscle. "So… she awakens," he muttered, teeth bared. "Mine… but she burns… dangerous…"
Darian: "Control it, Kael. Let her learn… but protect her. Always protect her."
I felt Nyx surge through me, a second self fierce, untamed, fiery, and ready to strike.
My eyes glowed faintly in the dim forest, shadow and fire rippling from my body.
The predator froze, sensing the change, a snarl escaping its massive jaws.
I leapt forward instinctively, claws slashing through the mist, fire coiling around my arms as Nyx guided my every move.
Darian moved beside me, shadow weaving with Nyx's fire, our powers merging into one fluid, deadly storm.
Kael: "YES! Mine! Protect her, Lyra… protect her!"
Nyx: "I will… no one takes her… no one touches her!"
The predator lunged again, faster than before, but we moved as one
Darian's shadow, Kael's raw hunger, Nyx's fire, and my own human instincts intertwined.
Claws met claws, fire met dark, molten eyes locked on mine, and for the first time I felt equal to him, equal to the beast, equal to Darian and Kael combined.
"Lyra… Darian's voice growled against my ear, golden eyes molten.
"Together… always together…"
I nodded, fire and shadow coiling in perfect rhythm. My body ached with heat, blood burning, heart racing, and Nyx roared from inside me, claiming, defending, untamed. The predator staggered back under the onslaught, but its eyes… they were calculating, intelligent, ancient. It wasn't just a mindless beast it knew me, knew us, and it hungered for more than just blood.
Kael: "Mine! Claim her! Protect her! She's everything!"
Nyx: "Yes… ALL of her… mine… no one takes her!"
Darian's hands pressed against mine, guiding our combined power, teeth brushing my jaw, shadow coiling like a living armor. Heat surged between us, primal and intimate, our combined forces making the forest itself tremble.
The predator hissed, retreating slightly, but the red glow in its eyes promised it wasn't done.
It circled, calculating, waiting.
I could feel Nyx bristling inside me, ready to leap, ready to fight again.
Darian's lips brushed my temple in warning, teeth grazing my skin, Kael growling low in response.
