Chapter 2 - Chapter 2-The Breaking Point

An old boxing gym. The air is thick with the scent of heavy sweat, dust, and worn-out leather. A single fluorescent bulb on the ceiling flickers with a rhythmic hum.

Hwan-hee was striking the heavy sandbag as if pouring every regret of his life into each blow. He ignored the stinging pain in his knuckles and the burning sensation in his lungs with every impact. His body was covered in bruises, and his wraps were stained with blood in places, yet he did not stop.

"Right, left, right, left... Uppercut!"

A single image was etched into his mind: Park Jae-hyun falling helplessly to the ground. That moment when he failed to protect him due to his own weakness. This thought drove him to increase the violence of his punches even further.

The endearingly sharp sound of punches echoing through the gym was interrupted by Seo-ah's anxious voice:

— "Hwan! That's enough, stop! You're already injured; your body can't take any more. You shouldn't push yourself this hard!"

Seo-ah stood in the corner of the gym, watching Hwan tear himself apart. Her eyes held not just fear, but a profound sense of helplessness. Yet, Hwan didn't even hear her. With one final move, he threw all the strength from his shoulders into his fist. The sandbag shuddered violently, but Hwan's knees could no longer hold. As warm blood dripped onto the concrete floor, he collapsed to his knees.

Seo-ah rushed to his side instantly, cradling Hwan's sweat-drenched face in her hands:

— "No, no... Hwan, my love, look at me! Are you okay? Why are you doing this? You're going to kill yourself!"

Hwan gripped Seo-ah's wrists with trembling hands. His vision was blurred, but the fury within him remained crystal clear. He whispered with difficulty:

— "I'm weak, Seo-ah... I couldn't protect him. I could do nothing while Park Jae-hyun was in that state. I need to get stronger... Do you hear me? I must be stronger than everyone, stronger than everything!"

Seo-ah pressed her forehead against his, as if trying to soothe Hwan's dark ambition. Her voice was calmer now, more wise:

— "My grandfather always told me that true strength isn't in the muscles, Hwan—it's in the soul. Remember Hercules... even he became 'Hercules' because of his unshakable will long before his physical strength. You are already strong, because you have a heart big enough to let yourself hurt for those you love."

Hwan-hee did not answer. His gaze shifted to the small, high window of the gym. Outside, despite the storm, a small bird was defending its nest and chicks against two much larger birds. The bird did not take a single step back against its vastly superior rivals.

In the cry of that little bird, Hwan saw his own destiny. The physical pain within him gave way to a cold, resolute silence

An old Bulgogi restaurant in the backstreets of Busan, its sign half-faded. Inside, the aroma of searing meat mingled with the smell of sea salt and rust wafting in from outside.

Yuna was waiting for her son with trembling hands when the door was kicked open with such violence that it strained the hinges. Five men entered, reeks of cheap tobacco and sweat clinging to them, their bodies covered in haphazard tattoos. They were one of Busan's local gangs parasites sucking the lifeblood of the streets The man who appeared to be their leader stepped onto the clean floor with his dirty boots and walked toward the counter. His eyes were bloodshot.

— "Look at me, you old hag! The installment for this damn shop is three days overdue. Are you testing our patience, or do you have a death wish?"

Yuna tried to back away, but with a swift move, the man reached over the table and grabbed her by the hair. Yuna's scream of pain echoed against the empty walls of the shop At that moment, Park Jae-hyun, who had just emerged from the kitchen with a tray in hand, froze. Seeing his mother held by her hair, her head pressed against the counter, caused something to snap in his mind. The timid boy in his eyes vanished instantly, replaced by a cold, unrecognizable expression.

Park Jae Hyun= "Let go... Let go of my mother right now!"

The gangsters burst into laughter. Their leader pulled Yuna's hair even harder and glared at Jae-hyun:

— "Look at this rat! All grown up and protecting his mommy? Or what, you little runt?"

Jae-hyun didn't answer. He clenched his fists so hard that his knuckles turned white. The blood in his veins felt as if it had begun to boil. Suddenly, as if his body were being controlled by something else, he lunged forward. His movement was so fast and possessed such unexpected resolve that the gang leader couldn't even react.

CRACK!

Jae-hyun's fist landed squarely on the man's jaw. The leader's head snapped back, his body spun mid-air, and he met the cold hardness of the asphalt. He lay sprawled on the ground, blood pooling from his mouth.

Jae-hyun turned to the crowd with a trembling voice but eyes as cold as ice:

Park Jae Hyun= "If you ever try to disrespect my mother like that again... I will destroy you. Do you hear me?"

The rest of the gang, after a moment of shock, flared with rage. The largest among them tightened his grip on a gleaming steel brass knuckle. This wasn't a common brawl; it was an attempted execution.

— "You hear this little bug, boys? It's time you learned the price of overstepping, you rat!"

The man lunged forward with his massive frame. His brass-knuckled fist crashed like a sledgehammer into Jae-hyun's defenseless chest. The force of the blow lifted Jae-hyun off his feet. The young boy crashed through the shop's window and flew five meters onto the rain-soaked pavement. The sound of his body hitting the concrete was like the scream of breaking bones. Jae-hyun's consciousness sank into the darkness of pain.

Yuna rushed outside wailing, throwing herself over her son's bloodied body:

— "MY SON! Leave him alone, what kind of monsters are you? Jae-hyun, open your eyes! I'll kill you, do you hear me? MY SON!"

The gangster wiped the bloodied brass knuckle and approached Jae-hyun. While the others forced Yuna aside, one of them recorded the scene on his phone, howling with laughter The man with the brass knuckles leaned over the unconscious Jae-hyun, raising his fist for one final blow.

— "This is it, rat... Your fate ends here in this street, among the trash."

At that exact moment, the fist suspended in mid-air stopped as if caught in a steel vice. No one understood what had happened. The man tried to pull his fist back, but it was futile. A hand gripped both the brass knuckle and the man's hand so tightly that the sound of metal bending could be heard.

SNAP... CRACK... CRUNCH!

Under incredible pressure, the brass knuckle split in two. The gangster let out a shriek of agony as he felt the bones in his hand turn to dust. Out of the darkness, a silhouette emerged, with a savage glint in his eyes

The voice rising from the darkness scratched at their ears like a cold wind:

— "I'll kill you, do you hear me? Get lost, you dogs!"

Hwan-hee emerged, his eyes glowing with a feral rage that no one had ever seen before. The gang leader, trembling from both pain and shock, stuttered:

— "W-who the hell are you?! Boys, what are you looking at? Look how many of us there are, attack him!"

Yet, no one could move a muscle. The air around Hwan had grown heavy, as if the street's temperature had suddenly plummeted. This was the "savage aura" Seo-ah had spoken of. Hwan took a single step, and in that moment, everything turned into a blur Hwan descended upon the first attacker like a shadow. He grabbed the man's arm and twisted it in the opposite direction; the sound of snapping bones mingled with the pitter-patter of raindrops. Immediately after, a kick delivered to the chest of another sent the man flying into the trash containers at the far end of the alley Though the rest retreated in terror, Hwan did not stop. He dove among them like a predator. His fists were sledgehammers, his movements a storm. Within seconds, Busan's most feared gang was writhing on the ground in agony. Hwan roared one last time:

Hwan-Hee= "GET OUT OF HERE!"

Without looking back, the gangsters vanished into the darkness, dragging their wounded comrades behind them.

Hwan, breathless, walked toward the unconscious body on the ground Park Jae-hyun. He knelt down and looked at the boy's pale face, forgetting his own exhaustion. He placed a hand on Jae-hyun's shoulder and whispered softly:

Hwan-Hee= "You truly are brave and chosen, kid... I'm going to help you. You're not alone anymore."

At that moment, Yuna ran over to embrace her son through her tears. She looked at Hwan with gratitude and bewilderment:

Yuna= "You... You're the one whose name my son was muttering, aren't you? Hwan... Your name must be Hwan."

A sad yet warm smile replaced Hwan's savage expression from moments ago. He nodded:

Hwan-Hee "Yes, ma'am, it's me. I'm sorry... I didn't make it in time, I'm so sorry. Jae-hyun is my closest friend."

Yuna replied through her sobs:

Yuna= "Is that so? My son never mentioned... He never spoke of anyone until that day he woke up in the hospital. You can't imagine how happy I am that he has a friend like you. Please, my son—"

Yuna's words were cut short by a cheerful and somewhat mischievous voice from behind. A pair of arms wrapped affectionately around the woman's neck.

Seo-ah= "Don't you worry, ma'am! Your son is safe with us, right Hwan?"

It was Seo-ah. With her long blonde hair, striking style, and Hello Kitty printed accessories, she looked as if she didn't belong in this dark alley at all. But the reassuring spark in her eyes eased the fear inside Yuna. Seo-ah winked at Hwan and added:

Seo-ah="Now, it's time to take this hero out of here. The real training is just beginning!"

An isolated mountain house, built with a harmony of wood and stone, nestled in the heart of misty pine forests, far from the city's clamor. Inside, there is the crackling of wood from the fireplace and the scent of freshly brewed tea Park Jae-hyun's consciousness began to return as if drifting out of a thick layer of fog. When he opened his eyes, the first things he saw were the wooden ceiling beams and the soft morning sun filtering through the window. But his mind was still back in that dark alley in Busan He tried to spring out of bed in a frenzy, every muscle in his body screaming in pain:

Park Jae Hyun="W-where am I?! You scumbags! Let go of my mother! I'll kill you, do you hear me?!"

Just then, the bedroom door swung open sharply. As Jae-hyun recoiled in fear, someone burst in like a storm. It was Seo-ah. Before Jae-hyun could even realize what was happening, her fist swung through the air toward his face. Jae-hyun squeezed his eyes shut, but the expected impact never came. The fist had stopped just at the tip of his nose, a distance measured in centimeters.

Seo-ah pulled her hand back with a mischievous laugh:

Seo-ah= "Ahahaha! So you're finally awake, 'little hero.' Don't worry, kid, you're safe here. Look who I brought for you I hope you're happy. Come in, big guy!"

Hwan-hee stepped through the door. But the moment Jae-hyun saw him, he froze. Hwan's left eye was completely swollen shut, and there was a deep, fresh gash stretching from his cheekbone to his temple. This scar was the silent proof of the blood spilled that night in Busan and the price paid to save Jae-hyun.

Jae-hyun's voice trembled, his eyes filling with tears:

Park Jae Hyun="Hwan... You... I'm sorry, everything happened because of me. For me, you—"

Hwan-hee didn't let his friend finish. He walked over and placed his hand on Jae-hyun's shoulder with a reassuring weight:

Hwan-hee= "Don't talk nonsense, Jae-hyun. I told you I'd help you. Never forget this; real friends are for days like these, right Seo-ah?"

Seo-ah clapped her hands, as if trying to dispel the heavy emotional atmosphere:

Seo-ah= "Exactly right! Now, Jae-hyun, first things first... Oh, whatever, emotions don't fill the stomach. Hey Hwan! Can you finally bring those corn chips from the kitchen?"

Hwan turned to Seo-ah in disbelief; even with only one eye open, it was clear how exhausted he was by her antics:

Hwan-hee= "What? Are you serious? We almost died, the kid just woke up, and you want chips? Damn it, Seo-ah, you are truly unbelievable sometimes!"

As the bickering between the two echoed through the room, Park Jae-hyun felt what it meant to be "loved" and to "belong" for the first time in his life, deep in his bones. The dark world he had been running from and fearing for years was crumbling away in the warmth of this small mountain house. A sincere smile, one that hadn't visited him in a long time, appeared on his face He was no longer just a "rat" trying to survive; he had a friend who could move mountains and a family with a soul behind him.

3 Months Later

Time seemed to flow at a different pace in the mountain house. For Park Jae-hyun, the weak boy of that first day was now a distant memory. The past three months had changed not just the pages of the calendar, but Jae-hyun's entire destiny Every morning, before the sun could lift its head from behind the forest, he woke to the sound of Hwan-hee's voice. The training was ruthless. Miles of mountain runs, breathing exercises in the freezing lake, followed by hours of boxing drills...

Hwan-hee stood by the heavy bag like a commander:

Hwan-hee= "Let's go, champion! Right hook! Now left! Now an uppercut! Don't drop your guard; your opponent is waiting for you to tire. That's it... You're doing great, Jae-hyun. At this rate, I think you might even be able to take on Seo-ah soon, huh?"

Sipping coffee from her Hello Kitty mug in the garden, Seo-ah shot them a sharp look:

Seo-ah= "Hey! Watch what you say, you dummy! He hasn't even finished my mental focus lessons yet. Physical strength is like a tiger's claw; but only the soul knows when to strike with it."

Jae-hyun continued his training, smiling through the sweat At the end of three months, when Park Jae-hyun looked in the mirror, he saw a young man he didn't recognize

Physical Transformation: His shoulders had broadened, and his posture had straightened. The paleness caused by malnutrition was gone, replaced by a vibrant, sun-kissed complexion. He had grown taller, and the muscles in his arms and core had become defined The Gaze: The most significant change was in his eyes. Those eyes that used to stare at the ground in fear were now sharp and bright, like an eagle choosing its target. His hair looked healthier, and his facial features had reached the maturity of a man.

He hadn't just learned how to fight; he had learned how to love and have fun. At night, they played board games by the fireplace, laughed at the shows Seo-ah forced them to watch, and shared heart-to-heart talks with Hwan. It felt like a dream he never wanted to end On that last night of summer break, the air was heavier and quieter than ever. At midnight, Jae-hyun woke to a metallic crackling sound coming from the depths of the forest a sound he had never heard before.

He got out of bed; the house was pitch black.

Park Jae Hyun= "Hwan? Seo-ah? Where are you guys?"

There was no answer. He dressed quickly and rushed outside. Neither Hwan nor Seo-ah was in the garden. The mountain house looked desolate, as if it had been abandoned for years.

Park Jae Hyun="Hey! What's going on? Seo-ah, if you're playing hide-and-seek again, it's not funny... Come out already!"

At that exact moment, the air to the right of the house suddenly tore open. First, a small spark appeared, then a massive, glowing Blue Portal opened, illuminating the entire garden. The energy surging from the portal sent Jae-hyun's hair flying backward.

While Jae-hyun watched this supernatural event in horror and awe, a massive, pale hand lunged out from the dark and misty depths of the portal. The hand latched onto Jae-hyun's chest like a claw.

Park Jae Hyun= "W-what?! Let me go!"

Jae-hyun tried to resist with his newly gained strength, but this power was on an inhuman level. With a single jerk, as his scream echoed through the forest, he was pulled into the portal into the heart of the unknown. For a moment, light painted the entire world white, and then, everything was plunged into a deep silence
