Chapter 170 - Chapter 170: The Fiendish Abyss

When Mo Fan arrived Fang Yu also noticed a young woman walking over. Tiny crystal ornaments hung from her silky black hair, while several books rested gracefully in her arms. Her steps were light, and her elegant figure carried an air of quiet refinement.

It was none other than Ding Yumian.

Fang Yu walked over.

"What a coincidence. We meet again. What are you doing here?"

"I was at the library earlier and happened to see Mo Fan. Wasn't he participating in the nomination tournament? Since he's hopeless with directions, I brought him here," Ding Yumian explained.

"As expected of Mo Fan. Careless as ever. First, Ai Tutu impersonated him and stole his nomination without him realizing it. Now he can't even find the venue."

Fang Yu shook his head with a helpless smile.

Just as Fang Yu finished speaking, a man happened to walk over.

He stood tall and straight like a black sword, carrying a steadfastness and loneliness that were completely unlike someone his age.

He silently stopped nearby, watching the competition on the arena.

When Fang Yu noticed him, he was momentarily stunned.

"I only wanted to understand what happened just now. Sorry for interrupting."

Seeing Fang Yu looking at him, the man spoke first.

When he remained silent and focused, Fang Yu had not even sensed his presence. He was like a dark statue standing there without the slightest trace of existence.

"Hello. I'm Ai Jiangtu."

Looking at Fang Yu, Ai Jiangtu introduced himself.

"Fang Yu."

Fang Yu returned the greeting.

The moment Ai Jiangtu heard the name "Fang Yu," he froze briefly.

"I'm glad to meet you ahead of time. I hope we'll become teammates in the future."

Pointing toward the arena where Ai Tutu was standing, he continued.

"I have something to take care of over there first."

Fang Yu nodded.

"You two know each other?"

Watching Ai Jiangtu walk toward the arena, Ding Yumian asked curiously.

"Not before today. We've only heard a few things about each other."

Fang Yu smiled.

On the arena, Ai Jiangtu made his entrance.

His way of handling things was as domineering as ever.

He simply slapped a nomination ticket onto the table, immediately putting the matter of Ai Tutu impersonating someone and causing their team's defeat to rest.

Then filled with anger, Ai Jiangtu landed a vicious blow on Gu Jian, beating him until he was barely conscious as punishment for insulting Ai Tutu.

Fang Yu knew, Ai Jiangtu was the ultimate siscon.

Whoever married Ai Tutu in the future would probably have to stay on constant guard against their intimidating brother-in-law.

Gu Jian was truly unfortunate.

He had suffered a double beating from both Mo Fan and Ai Jiangtu.

Out in the world, failing to recognize who you shouldn't offend could bring disaster crashing down on your head.

"Let's go. The farce is over."

Fang Yu turned toward Ding Yumian.

"Come have a meal with me. I'll take you back to the library afterward so you can continue burying yourself in books."

"Alright."

Ding Yumian nodded with a smile.

After spending some time strolling around with Ding Yumian, Fang Yu returned to his residence.

The Ancient Capital Calamity was about to erupt.

It was time to start making preparations.

Meanwhile in the Ancient Capital.

Inside the Clock Tower Magic Association.

Within an ancient-looking office, a young female inspector hurried toward the conference room, clutching an electronic display device in her hands.

"Black! It's black!"

She shouted anxiously as she ran.

"Calm down and explain yourself clearly."

Vice Chairman Peng Yu of the Ancient Capital Magic Association spoke in a steady voice.

"It's black! A black marker has appeared here! It's the Fiendish Abyss!"

The young inspector hurriedly pointed at the electronic display.

Displayed on the screen was an electronic map.

The mapped region appeared to cover the Ancient Capital and its surrounding areas.

It was already late at night.

Beyond the safety boundaries of the Ancient Capital, the entire map had turned a deep crimson red.

The vivid color was both eye-catching and alarming, indicating that the undead outside were several times more active than usual.

Yet amidst that sea of crimson a single black dot had suddenly appeared not long ago.

Black, that represented a forbidden zone for humanity.

Purple already signified a demon kingdom, a place where even top-tier mages had only the slimmest chance of survival.

Black, however, meant absolute death.

No living creature that entered could ever return alive.

Yet amidst the sea of crimson surrounding the Ancient Capital, a single black dot had appeared!!

That could only mean one thing.

The most terrifying existence within the land of the undead had revealed itself.

"Notify the other major factions immediately. The Fiendish Abyss has appeared! The undead have become so active that even the Fiendish Abyss has been exposed. If we can't uncover the root cause behind all of this, this entire land will be reduced to hell!" Vice Chairman Peng Yu said with a grave expression.

Undead roaming around the Ancient Capital had always been a common occurrence. For thousands of years, the people here had learned how to "coexist" with them.

But ever since the upheaval at the eastern end of the Shawang River, the entire region had become increasingly difficult to control. Countless undead crawled out of the earth before night had even fully fallen. High level corpse creatures wandered freely through areas inhabited by humans. Now, even the Fiendish Abyss, the closest place in the world to hell itself, had emerged. Wasn't that enough to prove that a catastrophic disaster was about to erupt?

The Ancient Capital had stood for thousands of years because the undead had spent those same millennia constantly watching the city with greedy eyes. Through endless wars, the people here had learned how to defend themselves and resist.

The blurred boundary between day and night, the savage undead uprising, and the appearance of the Fiendish Abyss there had to be a reason behind all of this!!

"Deacon, the Earth Holy Spring from the Three Pools Archipelago has been confiscated by the Tribunal, and Disciple Xing Shan has also been captured," the teahouse owner reported nervously.

"A bunch of useless fools!" The sound of a teacup shattering echoed through the teahouse as an enraged roar filled the room.

"Please calm your anger, sir. We truly didn't expect the Tribunal's reinforcements to arrive so quickly. After that, we didn't dare make another move," the teahouse owner replied timidly.

"Failures have no value in staying alive. Someone will naturally deal with them."

"There's no need to concern ourselves with this matter anymore! So what if they obtained that Earth Holy Spring? We already possess the Nether Dew refined from six portions of Earth Holy Spring water. Even if they discover some clues, they'll only manage to prolong their struggle for a little longer. Once the Fiendish Abyss descends, the entire Ancient Capital will become the altar upon which Lord Salan ascends to godhood!"

It was the voice of a middle aged man. If anyone from Bo City had been present, they would have immediately recognized who he was.

The teahouse owner hurriedly nodded in agreement.

Who would have thought that there had still been one survivor who slipped through the net on the battlefield? That person's ability to remain hidden had truly reached the highest level.

Early the next morning, Fang Yu climbed out of bed and had already received news that Mo Fan was on his way to the Ancient Capital.

Fang Yu was neither a saint who grieved for the suffering of all mankind nor an ignorant youth.

The Ancient Capital was about to face an unprecedented catastrophe. The death aura accumulated over thousands of years by the undead would soon erupt. Even Super-tier Mages would be unable to escape unscathed.

Fortunately, the Totem Feather hidden within his Contract Space gave Fang Yu a measure of confidence.

Ancient King, this challenge might be a bit beyond the syllabus.

Still, there were opportunities within the Ancient Capital that were worth fighting for.

In the end, Fang Yu set off, boarded a flight from Magic City, and headed straight for the Ancient Capital.

The final passenger plane slowly descended through the dark clouds and landed at Xianyang Airport.

Its arrival also meant that every traveler bold enough to come to the Ancient Capital during the undead uprising had reached this land of chaos.

There was still some distance between Xianyang and the Ancient Capital.

Fang Yu immediately condensed his Ice Wings and flew directly toward the city.

The dark clouds were as dense as black velvet, blocking out every ray of sunlight.

It wasn't raining.

The sky remained dim and gloomy. Combined with the dull gray and withered colors brought by the season, the entire world seemed devoid of even the slightest trace of life.

This was the Ancient Capital, a land where the living and the dead coexisted.

It was obvious that the entire city had entered a state of lockdown.

From a distance, one could even see that an enormous and majestic city wall had been erected around the entire outer district.

"Who would've thought that when the undead calamity truly begins, a casual strike from the Eight Undead Monarch, the Corpse General Hades, would reduce it to nothing more than decoration," Fang Yu muttered with a sigh.

The Magic Association of Xi'an was established within the Bell Tower, while the Hunters' Union was located in the Drum Tower.

The two ancient landmarks stood facing one another, like a pair of colossal guardians watching over the city.
