Chapter 172 - Chapter 172: The Catastrophe of the Ancient Capital

In the end, after Little Flame Belle completed her evolution and Fang Yu was still immersed in his excitement an elderly woman walked over.

She was the curator of the museum, and the Glazed Phoenix Feathers had been passed down through her family for generations.

She had witnessed the entire transformation that had taken place around Fang Yu.

This young man clearly shared a deep connection with the existence represented by the Phoenix Feathers!

After a moment of thought, she made a decision.

"Take these Glazed Phoenix Feathers with you."

"You've allowed me to see hope that they may one day be fully restored."

"Perhaps they will once again display the brilliance of the ancient Divine Artifact they once were. Rather than leaving them here in the museum for people to admire, they would be better off in your hands."

"And you are?" Fang Yu asked in surprise.

"I'm the curator of this museum, and also the owner of the Glazed Phoenix Feathers," the elderly woman explained.

The surprise had come so suddenly.

He had originally been wondering what excuse he should come up with.

Should he just seize them by force?

Or seize them by force?

But this was the Ancient Capital, where powerful Mages were everywhere.

In the end, he wisely abandoned that dangerous idea.

"Thank you."

"They share a connection with the Totem Feather inside me. They'll be of tremendous help. I'm truly grateful."

The elderly woman smiled faintly.

"I only hope you won't let them lose their glory."

"I won't."

After chatting with the elderly woman for a while, Fang Yu finally left the Ancient Capital Museum with the Glazed Phoenix Feathers.

Two days later.

Fang Yu narrowed his eyes slightly and raised his head at a forty five degree angle toward the sky.

At that very moment, a raindrop fell from above, landing on his cheek before slowly sliding down like a tear shed by the heavens.

"It's raining..."

His voice was unusually low, as though he had recalled something he wished he could forget.

To him, this scene felt hauntingly familiar.

Back in Bo City, where he had grown up, the same nightmare had once become a horrifying reality.

The rain had arrived.

And with it, the catastrophe.

The moment he saw the weather, Fang Yu understood.

The Black Vatican had used the Nether Dew to manipulate the undead, allowing them to survive even beneath the light of dawn.

When that happened, the Ancient King, who had remained far removed from the mortal world for thousands of years, would awaken.

The Fiendish Abyss would descend.

The Eight Undead Monarchs would offer the Ancient Capital as a blood sacrifice.

Fang Yu realized that simply knowing the future did not mean he could truly solve every problem.

During the past few days, he had searched throughout the entire Ancient Capital.

Yet he had failed to find Cardinal Wu Ku or Deacon Mu He.

The two of them had hidden themselves far too well.

While Fang Yu continued searching for Deacon Mu He, the Monarch-level undead, the Ghost King, appeared and marched into the Ancient Capital.

However, the Ancient Capital was one of the oldest cities in the country.

It was naturally home to countless powerful Mages.

Under the leadership of several Super-tier Mages, the Ghost King was eventually slain.

With the Ghost King's death, the entire undead horde immediately descended into chaos and began fleeing in every direction.

"Excellent! Excellent! Wonderful!"

Chief Strategist Zhu shouted excitedly as he watched the undead retreat.

The military commanders standing beside him erupted into cheers as well.

For countless nights, everyone stationed along the North City Wall had lived in constant fear of the Ghost Tyrant.

That brutal undead creature had been the greatest threat facing the northern defenses.

Several times, it had nearly smashed open enormous breaches in the city wall.

Now that the greatest hidden danger had finally been eliminated,

the soldiers guarding the North City Wall could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

The people were still celebrating their victory.

Little did they know, this was only the tip of the iceberg.

The true disaster had yet to arrive.

Several more hours passed.

Beneath the hazy curtain of rain, the gray watchtower stood in the center of the endless city wall.

After enduring countless years of wind and rain, its weathered appearance had become a symbol of history itself.

The first ray of sunlight slowly rose over the eastern horizon.

Dawn should have arrived.

Yet the dark clouds and endless rain left the entire world gloomy and lifeless.

No matter how overcast or dim the sky became, the night was already over.

It was daytime.

It was morning.

It was supposed to be the moment when this battle finally came to an end...

"The sun is already up..."

"Why are the undead still here?"

"Can somebody tell me why is this happening?"

As the mages stared at the land that should have returned to peace, they were horrified to discover that the nightmare had not ended. The undead assaulting the city walls had not diminished in number. Instead, their ranks had grown even larger!

They had believed dawn would bring the battle to an end. Many had already begun thinking about how they would celebrate once everything was over. But now, even the daylight they had always placed their faith in had abandoned them, plunging them into utter despair.

"AHHH!! AHHHH!!!"

Screams echoed continuously from every direction.

For thousands of years, no one had ever heard of undead roaming freely during the day. Yet today, beneath the light of dawn, these undead moved without restraint, slaughtering people wherever they went!

If the undead could truly move about freely during daylight, humanity would stand no chance against them!

If the undead could continue rampaging under the sun, how could this ancient city possibly hold out?

Just as everyone trembled in fear, they finally understood what it meant for disaster to strike one after another.

A deafening boom suddenly erupted from the northern sky.

It was the sound of enormous wings beating.

A single flap scattered the thick clouds overhead, a terrifying display of overwhelming power.

A colossal skeletal creature spread its massive bony wings, their enormous span blotting out the sky and casting an immense shadow over the battlefield.

That single beat of its wings revealed its full form.

The powerful mages standing atop the city's towers finally saw its gigantic skeletal body, a frame comparable in size to the towering main fortress built into the North City Wall itself.

Its three skulls gazed arrogantly down upon the insignificant humans below, its eye sockets filled with utter disdain.

The Skeletal Dragon Monarch overlooked the tiny city like a supreme ruler.

The Ghost Tyrant ruled over ghosts, and wherever it appeared, endless ghost hordes inevitably followed.

The Nether Bone Dragon ruled over skeletons, a terrifying undead sovereign whose infamy far surpassed even that of the Ghost Tyrant.

It had awakened beneath the light of dawn!

On the main city tower.

"Nether Bone Dragon..."

Military Commander Lu Xu took a long while before finally forcing those four words out.

Even with his cultivation as a Super-tier Mage, merely speaking that name sent chills down his spine, let alone witnessing the most terrifying undead overlord that had lurked beneath this land for countless years.

"Can someone tell me, what exactly is happening?"

Councilman Zhu Meng stared blankly at the Nether Bone Dragon that had awakened beneath the dawn, as well as the undead legion that remained as savage and bloodthirsty as ever.

Chief of Staff Zhu, Yaonan, and the military commanders all stood atop the city tower, their eyes filled with shock and terror.

Everything before them had completely shattered common sense.

The undead stood unharmed beneath the daylight.

More and more undead continued clawing their way out of the earth, defying every known law, as though the true feast of darkness and blood had only just begun..

Everyone could hear the deafening roars of the undead echoing from afar.

They were even more earth-shaking than during the night.

Han Ji, President of the Clock Tower Magic Association, also stood upon the city wall.

His aged eyes were filled with horror and disbelief.

With a single squeeze, he crushed the stone railing beneath his hand, no longer able to suppress the shock in his heart.

Bathed in the light of dawn beneath the endless dark clouds, the undead continued roaming freely.

For a thousand years, no one had ever witnessed undead appearing during the day.

"Why... why?! Could it really be that Heaven intends to destroy the Ancient Capital?"

Han Ji's entire body trembled.

If the undead could roam during the day, how were human mages supposed to fight an undead army that never knew exhaustion?

No matter how much magic energy they possessed, it would eventually be depleted.

But the undead were endless.
