Raven stood up for the second time, her scythe still in her hand.
Her breath was cut short. The impact from the back of the angel's hand still resonated in her right shoulder's bone. F3 was active but at the level Raven had been using since activating Army of Bones — the level that had cost her one hundred thirty‑four skeletons in two seconds.
That level wasn't enough.
What the angel had done to one hundred thirty‑four units in two seconds told her exactly how insufficient it was.
Raven looked at the angel.
The angel looked at Seraph with F2 active, evaluating the adjustment it needed, paying no more attention to Raven than to an obstacle it had already removed twice.
That was what made the decision.
Not the shoulder pain. Not the one hundred thirty‑four destroyed skeletons.
That the angel wasn't looking at her.
