Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Soul World

'Soul World…'

'Soul Core…'

'I see. There really is some kind of magic in this world.'

Ciel closed the book. At that moment, he realized just how hungry he was.

'I guess I'll go eat. When I get back to my room, I'll try what I've just learnt.'

After gathering all the available information, he left the library.

It was already evening, and the sun was setting by the time he left.

He stopped by at a nearby restaurant for a meal, ending up with 10 Copper remaining.

The food was better than anything he had in recent times, but nothing mind breaking.

Ciel then went back to his room in the inn, and was ready to try using magic in this world.

'I need to focus my mind, and enter the Soul World.'

He was quite interested in magic, as he was still a 17 year old kid. Everyone dreamt of being a magician as a child, including him. It was a dream come true.

After a few minutes of trying, he finally entered the so-called Soul World.

It was a natural feeling that felt like becoming one with his mind.

He regained his consciousness in his Soul World. This was the first and hardest step of becoming a Soul Sorcerer.

Funnily enough, he could already enter his Soul World, making him a Soul Sorcerer.

'As I thought, I can already enter my Soul World… it must be because I survived the disaster of Prisma and was transported to a new world.'

'I could tell something was different about me because my physical strength had increased.'

Normally, only 1 in 2,000 people would be able to enter the Soul World.

This was because of something called Spirit.

Ciel looked around and observed his Soul World.

The place he was currently in could barely be classified as a new world. It was a plain and flat land that stretched out 20 metres in diameter.

The land was split into two, one half being a midnight blue stone field, and the other, a pure black tangible void.

In the center of the strange land was a levitating sphere — about 6 metres above ground — which was made up of the same two halves as the land.

This was the Soul Core

Every being had a Soul Core, including Forsakened. However, theirs was slightly different, and was called a Forsaken Core.

There was a dense fog surrounding all the land around him. There was nothing he could see beyond the fog, and he couldn't pass through it, as if the fog was tangible.

The fog was called the Soul Layer. It was how one got stronger in this world with the help of Spirit

To gain Spirit, one would have to overcome a challenge. The harder the challenge, the more Spirit could be obtained.

{For example: defeating a Forsakened, doing a task that couldn't be done before, etc. }

After gaining Spirit, the Soul Layer would be pushed backwards, making the Soul World larger in volume.

Spirit could go up to 100% Spirit Charge, and when full, one would reach the next Soul Layer, and the Soul Core would increase its Soul Tier.

Ciel was currently at Soul Layer 2 as well as Soul Tier 2.

At Soul Tier 2, one would get access to an attribute and ability.

Everyone only had 1 attribute, and gained a new ability every Soul Tier starting at Soul Tier 2.

The attribute was an innate quality that depended on the soul. There were many types of attributes, but most of them only provided a boost to ones abilities.

The way to use most abilities or attributes was with the help of Spirit Energy.

Spirit Energy could be found anywhere in the world. To make use of it, one would have to convert it into a new energy called Spirit Essence.

To gain Spirit Essence, one would have to absorb Spirit Energy in their Soul World. The time it would normally take Spirit Essence to fill the Soul World was 3 days.

Under the sphere, on the border of both parts of the land was a beautiful looking door. The door was golden brown in color, with majestic, pitch black engravings

Besides the door, there was a small, hand sized piece of rock. The rock was a midnight blue color, with a faint hue.

'This is nothing like what the book explained…'

The Soul World itself was normal. The fog, known as the Soul Layer and the sphere, known as the Soul Core were meant to be there.

It was everything else that was abnormal.

The split ground and Soul Core, the door and the rock.

There wasn't supposed to be anything besides the Soul Core in the Soul World, and they were definitely not meant to be split in two.

Ciel walked towards the door and picked up the rock.

'This rock feels… weird. It's like I have some sort of connection to it. Maybe it has some magical properties. I wonder if the door is the same, and where it leads to.'

Ciel went up to the door that seemed to lead to nowhere. Just as he was about to open it, he heard a voice from behind him.

"Don't open the door, you idiot."

Ciel's body tensed up, and he slowly turned around.

There was a young lady with an exquisite face, having elegant, jet black hair that reached her shoulders. Her eyes were a starless black, like an infinite void was beyond them. She stood at 5'6" and was around the same age as Ciel.

She looked slightly amused, but also a bit confused. She was wearing a black coat over a purple t-shirt with black pants.

She also gave off a slightly familiar presence.

'Who is she? I've definitely seen her before.'

'This attractive force… it's the being I saw just before transporting to this world.'

Ciel didn't know if he should be feeling terrified or not. He decided to get some information before doing anything rash.

"Why not? Also, who are you?" Ciel said as he regained his cool.

"My name is Rein Frenzix. I don't know what exactly is behind the door, but there it's a terrifying existence."

"Whats your name by the way? I think I know the situation you're in. You're from another world, aren't you?"

Ciel took a few steps away from the door.

He thought for a moment, wondering if he should admit to being from another world.

'There's nothing to lose if I do admit it. She also doesn't seem like too bad a person, otherwise she would have killed me with a sneak attack.'

"I'm Ciel Novasky. And yes, I'm from another world called Prisma. Prisma was destroyed and I ended up here. How did you know?" Ciel explained

"It's because I also come from another world. It was called Earth, but it's also destroyed now. We saw each other for a moment before coming to this world. I could tell it was you as soon as I saw you." Rein said

'Someone else from another world? I don't think she's lying. The fact that her planet was destroyed like Prisma is no coincidence. Does she know what happened?'

'Also if she's from another planet, could there be other people similar to us? There was no one else around when I saw her at that time, so probably not. But I'll keep that in mind.'

"I see. Do you know why our planets were destroyed?" Ciel asked.

"No, but I'm trying to figure it out." She replied

'This could be a good situation to create an ally.'

"How about we cooperate? We do share a similar goal." Ciel asked with hope

If there was someone else like him in this world, they would either be the greatest ally or the greatest enemy. And that someone was right in front of him, with a smile on her face.

Of course, he knew better than to trust someone suspicious, but at this moment, he was in need of allies. Even if she betrayed him, he would be ready.

He would also prefer not interacting with people more than necessary. He hadn't forgotten what Prisma was like.

"Hmm… sure, we can be allies. It would benefit both of us, and there's no reason for us to betray each other." Rein said

'That was easy… well, there was no reason to reject. '

Ciel was happy she accepted joining hands, but he didn't fully trust her yet. He decided to be cautious around her until she proved to be a real ally.

"Alright. Do you know what's wrong with the Soul World and why we are both in the same one?" Ciel asked

The Soul World was unique to everyone.

Only the owner of the Soul World could enter. The Soul World never allowed other people to enter, even if they got permission from the owner.

"I don't know the reason why, but this Soul World belongs to both of us. Also, I do know what the door and rock is."

"The door is my attribute, called the Door of Void, and I think the rock is yours" she continued as she pointed to the midnight blue rock.

'That's my attribute? A rock? What the hell? It must really have some magical properties.' Ciel couldn't help but sigh

'Also, if we have the same Soul World and Soul core, do we share our Spirit Essence?'

An attribute that was an object was extremely rare, but not unheard of. They mostly came in the form of weapons that could grow in strength with the Soul Sorcerer.

"My attribute is that door as I said before. From what I understood, when you open the door, Void element seeps out. The Void element collects inside the Soul Core." Rein pointed towards the Soul Core

"It's fine if the Void element enters, but if the Soul Core reaches the full capacity of the Void element, we will both start losing our sanity until we're completely erased from this world."

'Makes sense since we share the Soul World. But how is that fair to me?' Ciel found himself at the end of his rope

"As long as it's not full, we'll be safe. I can use the Void element in the physical world whenever there is Void element in the Soul Core. That's the ability I gained." Rein said

"Then what about the 'terrifying existence' you were talking about earlier?" Ciel asked

"That being is not a part of my attribute. I have no idea what it is, but if the Door of Void is opened for too long, it will start waking up." She said with a stern look

"If that happens, we're both going to die."
