"... What the hell," was the only thought to come to mind.

Today was a clear sign that his life was getting worse. To go from being expelled to winding up in some random forest was an indication that he should call it quits. As much as he wanted to question the latter first, the more pressing matter was floating before him. A light-blue box that currently had nothing but his name as the only thing he could clarify to make sense. Everything else seemed to be straight from an RPG... An RPG?

"Just what on earth is going on today?" Rise questioned, staring at the box before him as he recognized exactly what it was from his time spent on other activities besides kendo. Speaking of kendo...

"Wait a minute! Where the fuck is my bamboo sword?!"

It took him way too long to recognize his weapon was missing, but it was easily jotted down to be because of two reasons. The first was his current location since he could recall never entering any forest before IT happened. The second was because of the floating box he now recognized as a status window, a key element most commonly found in RPGs whenever you needed to upgrade a character, check their status, etc. Two things that didn't make sense. Add his missing sword onto the list, and you have three problems total.

Rise quickly jumped up to his feet, nearly sliding off the boulder he was on due to the slant it was forned with. After he caught himself before he could fall, his eyes finally took notice of something clearly out of the ordinary. His arms, legs, attire—nothing was right on, and about his person.

Panic quickly began to overtake him. Rise's thoughts were starting to run ride, body beginning to shake from dread. He needed to see it for himself. His eyes darted around, noticing the nearby stream that wasn't too far from his location. Rise leapt from the rock without a second thought, feet landing on the ground before they began to create crunching sounds against the grass and dirt with each step he took after making a dash toward the water straight ahead.

Sweat began to drip down his forehead, ducking under a branch as the river was now in sight. The rushing water picked up in his ears the closer he got, and he began to slow down because of it. Finally, he arrived seconds later, hurrying to gaze upon himself within the reflection of the water. What greeted him back was a body he didn't recognize.

First and foremost, he was shorter than his original height. Secondly, his lean physique that he had developed from constantly fighting and kendo was now replaced with a skinny body, the amount of muscle he developed having completely disappeared. Then there was his attire, his school uniform that he formerly wore to Wood Rose Academy was now missing. What replaced it was a black hoodless jacket with green long-sleeves, black pants with thin white stripes, and black sandals that covered his ankles up until his toes (which were left exposed). The only thing that didn't change was his face, red hair, and blue eyes.

Still, what was staring back at him was not his original body. That's when everything started to make sense.

In a forest he didn't fall asleep in, a "new" body with clothes he's never seen a day in his life, his sword being missing from his person, and a status window that he left at the boulder once he finally awakened. All signs pointed to one answer.

"No! I reincarnated into one of those dumbass isekais just like that guy who reincarnated as a vending machine!" Rise collapsed to the ground, slamming his fist against the dirt. "Why me of all people would the universe give such a fate?!"

So, you're correct, and incorrect all at the same time. The universe will not take credit for something I did. And lucky for you, this isn't one of those idiotic isekais where you're a reincarnated baby with the mind of a thirty-year-old man who's somehow gaining a harem as an infant. I'm way better than that dude.

Hearing that voice from above his lowered head immediately made Rise spring up to see who said that. After doing so, there wasn't a "who" present before him, but a "what" instead. That "what" being another light-blue box that was currently typing itself. Rise couldn't look away, shocked by the obvious fact of being in the one percent to actually be isekaied. That, and a sentient text box was actually TALKING to him.

Moving on, it's nice to meet you Rise, and welcome to the other side. Other side of your new life that is, because your wish has been granted by none other than yours truly.

Despite the textbox not having a body, he could practically sense the cocky nature and smirk coming off the textbox before him. Not to say it was a bad thing, but that was the impression he got by what he felt the system would do if it had an actual body. Then again, this was purely his own assumption.

Aside from that, I'm glad you're not exactly "normal." Instead of just running wild and doing something stupid, you actually made the connection that you were transported to another world due to key points such as your body being different alongside your attire. You watching anime as well is a plus, so this is all works out for me I suppose.

"Works out for you how?" Rise questioned, standing up from the ground ready to digest any answers he was given.

Oh boy. Let me be the first to tell you that isekaing someone who has no idea what that is a pain in the ass, obviously. Secondly, transporting someone to another world who's never watched anime means I'm in for more explanations, and they lack general understanding of how these kinds of situations work. That's why me getting you works out for me, because unlike a normal human who'd most likely "follow a storyline," you most likely won't abide by them.

"How would you even know that?"

Because I spent my time watching you defend those who couldn't protect themselves. I kept tabs on you and all the things you've done. You actively brokes rules and went against them to help those in need. If anything, I know you'll do whatever's right to you instead of what feels necessary.

"Sounds like you got high hopes for me or something." Despite his current situation, the redhead found himself smiling from the talking system. He couldn't help but be thankful to finally have someone out there acknowledge him for the good that he's done.

Anytime bro, but we have bigger things to attend to. Such as why you were chosen, where are you now, and what am I gonna have you do. Concerning all three of them, I'll explain where you are first. The answer to that would be the forest of training ground three, a good distance away from the entrance/exit of this battleground. In other words, I dropped you into the world of Naruto baby!

His eyes slowly began to widen at the familiar name. Naruto—an anime he had spent a good amount of his time watching ever since he first discovered what it was. There was nothing like scrolling your phone just to find a thumbnail on YouTube with some kid summoning a toad, but it instantly drew him in from what he could recall. Being his very first, it got him into the culture that was Japan and their stories, which only served to make him want to watch more of what they had to offer. Now he was present in that world. For what felt like the first time for him, Rise was at a lost for words.

I know, pretty cool right? No need to thank me though. I was just granting your wish is all.

"... My wish?" His confusion immediately showed itself, raising an eyebrow.

Suddenly, another textbox began to manifest to his left of the current one from the creator. Digital code of ones and zeroes began writing themselves out to create whatever was being brought to this location, and it didn't take long to do so either. Once it was finished, what fell into Rise's hand was a sheet of paper that no one but him should've known about.

"You had my pathology report?"

No, Rise. I simply recreated it and brought it here. My system can do a lot of things, but we'll get to that soon. Getting back to the point, yes I had your pathology report. It was the reason why I chose you—a teen who had been given the shitty end of the stick—and brought you here. I knew you were dying. The lung cancer you developed was only going to get worst. Not to mention...

Another textbox manifested itself to his right, but what popped up on it was a video of himself. He didn't even get a chance to ask about it, nor was given time to process what it was before witnessing a familiar occurrence for himself.

His body was hunched over, kendo sword stabbed into the ground as heavy coughing could be heard. His body seemed to shake with each cough, balance seemingly lessening even while he was kneeling. "Fu—" was the only word he heard from what he was seeing, but even that was cut short by another cough. Slowly, his head lifted from his hand, and he noticed it right away when he spotted the corner of his lips.

He had been coughing up blood.

Lung cancer... Despite the fact you never smoked a day in your life, you still ended up developing it in high school. You were a student working a part time job, but you knew deep down that wasn't gonna help you. Only delay the inevitable. It's as if you were designed to fail.

"You don't have to state the obvious ya know?" Ride clicked his teeth, his blood beginning to boil as it all came back to him. From getting expelled to coughing up blood as he desperately wanted to live, he couldn't even begin to process the shit-show his life was.

You're right, I don't, but I want it to fuel you. Think about it for a second. You were a teenager who never asked for any of this. You had problems no one else knew about, but you shouldered it and kept pushing. Wanting to live your life should've been something you were able to do, but even that got stripped from you, which was the reason why you were chosen. I answered your wish because you wanted to live. Sure, you got into fights, but you did so to protect others from the shitty hand they were dealt. You got a good heart, and I'm not letting that go to waste.

"Well, thanks for at least giving me another shot. Seriously, I mean that."

Trust me, I know you do, and you're welcome for it. Now though, we can get to the good part. That being what I'm going to have you do now that you're here, which is very simple.

Before he knew it, a textbox suddenly flew around to the front of his face. It was the status window from earlier, and it was ready to get things moving.

I want you to live your life to the fullest playing my game.

"... Heh, you don't have to tell me twice. I'm in." He gave the textbox a thumbs up, watching the magic unfold before his eyes as the system began changing the information formerly printed in its coding.
