I woke up to an empty bed, and for a moment I simply stared at the space beside me, wondering where Enzo had gone. I realized he had probably gone to the court because, with everything happening in the kingdom, he seemed to spend more time there than anywhere else these days.
I didn't bother calling Lily to help me dress; I washed my face, put on a simple dress, and left Enzo's chambers because I needed to find him and check on him. I knew that with everything happening around us, he needed me now more than ever.
The moment I stepped outside, I noticed the familiar stares following me, but this time I didn't care enough to acknowledge them. People whispered behind their hands while others openly looked in my direction before quickly turning away, and I continued walking until I began hearing voices coming from farther down the corridor.
