Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: The Early Bird Gets Eaten by the Bird

The two arrived at the Adventurers' Guild and indeed witnessed firsthand the lack of substance in having no requests.

Not only was the massive Adventurers' Guild completely empty of people, but even the staff were pitifully few.

The request board had only a scattering of life-related commissions; there wasn't a single one for subjugating magical beasts.

"As expected, just like what those people said—the request board really has no commissions we can take," Roxy said regretfully as she looked over all the requests on the board.

It was worth noting that in places where prices were particularly high, the rewards for Adventurers' Guild requests would also be higher.

For there to be no requests available in Asura, where prices were the highest, was an extremely lamentable situation.

"Hmm… Let's go," Dan Feng said, not knowing what else to say and opting for silence.

Just as the two were about to leave the Adventurers' Guild, two girls came in from outside.

They were chatting and laughing, but when they saw Roxy, astonishment overflowed in their eyes.

"Excuse me, are you a new adventurer? You look a bit unfamiliar—would you like to consider partying up with us?" one of the girls asked Roxy.

"What? Do I really look like a newbie?" Roxy looked at the two girls in disbelief.

"Hey! I'm A-rank, you know!" Roxy pulled out her adventurer card from her clothes. It clearly displayed A-rank adventurer.

"Eh? No way, you're really A-rank! You look younger than both of us." The two girls crowded in front of Roxy to closely examine the card of an A-rank adventurer.

"I'm not young! I just look young, but I'm already 25!"

"It's our first time seeing an A-rank adventurer— so cool!" After confirming that Roxy was genuinely A-rank, the admiration in the two girls' eyes was fully on display.

After being praised by them for a while, Roxy left the Adventurers' Guild together with Dan Feng.

"It seems A-rank adventurers are really rare in Asura," Roxy sighed. After all, Asura had fertile land, abundant water sources, and magical beasts were all eliminated by Asura's knight order, so the Adventurers' Guild here was essentially just for show.

A country this safe was practically hell for adventurers. Anyone A-rank or above who wanted to live here would need a certain level of connections.

Because there were some places even the knight order couldn't reach, and they needed to outsource to mercenaries.

"A-rank has always been rare. Most adventurers are B-rank," Dan Feng said casually.

Afterward, the two found a restaurant to have dinner before returning to the inn.

The inn had extra blankets, so Roxy asked the innkeeper for one.

At night, when it was time to sleep, Dan Feng was still reading a book while Roxy tossed and turned on the bed.

Dan Feng happened to look up and noticed Roxy wriggling nonstop on the bed. His eyes filled with puzzlement, so he asked, "Can't sleep?"

Hearing Dan Feng's words, Roxy's body stiffened slightly before she slowly replied, "A little…"

"Something on your mind?" Dan Feng could tell at a glance that Roxy had something bothering her. Otherwise, as an experienced adventurer, sleeping anywhere was perfectly normal for her.

"Sort of," Roxy said as she sat up on the bed. In the candlelight, a small, dejected expression appeared on her face.

"Want to talk about it?"

"I miss my parents."

Dan Feng: ?

He tried to comfort Roxy: "It's okay. When we have time later, we can go back and visit."

Roxy shook her head upon hearing that. "I don't want to go back anymore. That village is too quiet. Aside from my parents, I couldn't really talk to anyone else."

Dan Feng had also learned about Roxy's story from Traveling the World and felt deep sympathy for her experiences.

After that, Roxy said no more and lay back down on her own.

Seeing this, Dan Feng silently extinguished the candle on the table. What Roxy needed right now was self-motivation, not his comfort.

As soon as Roxy lay down, sleepiness surged over her. She thought to herself that sharing worries with someone really was the best way.

The two gradually fell asleep.

The next morning.

Dan Feng and Roxy got up early. Their goal today was to stroll around Asura as much as they could.

After getting ready, the two didn't delay and headed straight out.

As the saying goes, the early bird gets eaten by the bird.

Dan Feng and Roxy were now experiencing exactly that.

"Didn't you say this was an indestructible mana-imbued item? Why did it crack the moment I touched it?" Roxy glared angrily at the ugly-looking vendor in front of her.

"I don't care—you broke it, so you have to give me one gold coin!" the vendor snarled viciously. Two burly men stood beside him, and the whole setup looked menacing.

Dan Feng stepped forward without hesitation and positioned himself steadily in front of Roxy.

He stared expressionlessly at the vendors, his eyes radiating authority.

"What proof do you have that we broke it?" Dan Feng's voice was low and carried an irresistible force. "Couldn't it be that the item itself was already too worn out and that's why it broke?"

His words struck like a sharp sword straight at the vendors.

However, the vendors weren't intimidated by Dan Feng's presence.

Relying on the two burly men backing them up, they grew even more arrogant.

"I don't care about your excuses!" one vendor shouted rudely at Dan Feng. "You're paying today whether you like it or not!"

Dan Feng shook his head helplessly and sighed. "Sigh, I didn't expect people like this even in a place like this." With that, he pulled up Roxy's hood and turned to leave.

"Hey, hey, don't pull me—I can walk myself," Roxy said, directly swatting Dan Feng's hand away.

"They haven't paid yet! You two, get them! What are you standing there for!" Seeing Dan Feng turn to leave, the vendor hurriedly urged the two burly men beside him.

The two burly men snapped back to attention and stepped forward to block Dan Feng and Roxy.

However, the instant they took their first step, a transparent gust of air slammed hard into their chests.

Bang!

After a muffled thud, the two burly men were sent flying backward as if struck by a heavy hammer.

Their bodies flew like kites with broken strings and crashed straight into the vendor's stall.

The wooden stall wasn't sturdy to begin with—how could it withstand the weight of two burly men?

With a crisp crack, the wooden table shattered instantly, and various mana-imbued items scattered across the ground.

"What the hell are you two bastards doing!" The vendor stared in shock at the shattered mana-imbued items all over the ground and cursed loudly at the two.

Throughout the incident, Dan Feng and Roxy never looked back once, and no one at the scene had seen them cast magic.

That gust of air was, of course, Dan Feng's chantless wind magic. He hated crooked merchants the most.

If this had been in the wilderness, these people would already be corpses.
