Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Dimensional Clash

Shinto Palace

Inside an enormous hall, many deities were watching the current battle between Damon and Kaguya with full attention. Some were excited by the sheer scale of it, while others were worried for the blond, because they knew exactly what Kaguya Otsutsuki represented.

Everything had been going more or less the way Damon wanted, until the Fourth Hokage appeared.

The moment that happened, everything started going wrong.

Every god present began looking for the Shinigami, especially after seeing the curses Naruto was throwing at him. At that point, none of them knew whether the god of death was incredibly stupid or secretly clever.

Interfering with Damon's plans was enough to earn his anger, but now he had also earned the anger of a queen who had grown far too attached to the blond. Still, the fact that he vanished the moment it happened instead of staying around to face not only Amaterasu, but an enraged Izanami too, proved he was at least smart enough to run when necessary.

Amaterasu hid her emotions well, but when it came to the blond, she sometimes let more of them show than she wanted. Right now, she was afraid for him. Fighting Kaguya would be difficult even for her.

Izanami noticed that fear and took Amaterasu's hand, making the sun goddess look at her. She only found a calm, reassuring smile on the other woman's face. Amaterasu squeezed her hand a little before turning her eyes back to the battle without letting go.

Back with Damon

The landscape changed in an instant.

The ground beneath Damon's feet was molten rock, with glowing cracks of magma running through the land like veins of fire. The heat was enough to melt steel in seconds, but Damon shot into the air at tremendous speed as if this were nothing more than another battlefield.

Kaguya floated above the sea of lava, her white hair moving behind her like living silk. Her All-Killing Ash Bones came at him in a deadly rain, but Damon twisted through them with absurd precision, flying with a mastery that made it look like he was teleporting even when he was not. His right hand lit up with chakra as he formed five rings infused with energy.

"Haki Kōkan: Destructive Energy Rings."

Damon launched the rings toward Kaguya at high speed. She avoided them with the slightest movement, but the attack had never really been aimed at her. The rings slammed into the sea of lava behind her, and the explosion that followed sent a massive wave of magma upward like a real tsunami.

Kaguya reacted immediately and raised one hand.

"Eighty Gods: Vacuum Attack," she said calmly.

Dozens of pure chakra fists formed in the air and shot forward, tearing apart the wave of lava before continuing straight toward Damon.

Damon summoned a wall of chakra, and the explosion that followed was enormous. For a moment, he was actually grateful this battle was not taking place in the elemental nations, because he was pretty sure everything would already have been reduced to ash.

Letting out a breath, Damon vanished and reappeared above Kaguya, his leg wrapped in chakra as he came down with an axe kick.

She opened a portal.

Damon's leg passed through the void... and came out of another portal behind him, the force of his own strike nearly smashing into his back. Damon twisted in midair, caught his own ankle, and used the momentum to throw himself aside while materializing Truth-Seeking Orbs around himself.

The black orbs shot toward Kaguya. She barely avoided them, watching the chakra they touched vanish instantly, but that had only been a distraction. Damon appeared in her blind spot at brutal speed.

She noticed him at the last possible second.

The change was instant. Scorching heat became freezing cold in a blink. A frozen wasteland stretched in every direction. Damon landed in a crouch, cracking the ice beneath the impact, while Kaguya was already moving again. Her speed had increased with the change of terrain. She controlled these dimensions, and each one favored her differently.

Her hair attacked from six directions at once.

Damon created five shadow clones, each moving in a different direction while the original charged straight ahead. One clone used Wood Release, giant trees erupting from the ice while roots drilled downward to anchor them. Another prepared a Rasengan. A third threw marked kunai in a wide pattern.

Kaguya destroyed two clones with her hair, but that was exactly the point.

Damon appeared in front of her with Hiraishin, the Rasengan already formed in his palm.

He struck.

She vanished into a portal, but Damon had already expected it. His other hand moved at once, seals forming in rapid succession.

"Fire Style: Majestic Destroyer Flame."

A sea of fire erupted from his mouth, massive waves of flame swallowing the frozen landscape. The ice vaporized instantly, and clouds of steam filled the air. From inside that scalding mist, Kaguya's ash bones shot out like bullets.

Damon dodged them, but one grazed his shoulder and the chakra around that area flickered before disappearing.

His eyes narrowed.

Those things were a real problem.

"Boil Release: Scorching Hell Vortex."

The steam spiraled into a massive tornado, blades of overheated vapor tearing through everything around it so violently that even the dimensional stability began to fail. Damon tried to use that chance to pin the goddess down for good, but Kaguya had already seen it coming with her Byakugan. She changed dimensions in an instant, and both of them dropped into a crimson desert.

Kaguya looked at him, and for the first time, her expression hardened.

"Stop."

Damon smiled.

"You're a little late to ask for that, don't you think?"

How long had he been fighting Kaguya now?

Hours? Days? Weeks?

He no longer knew. The fight had stopped feeling normal a long time ago. Kaguya kept opening portals one after another, changing dimensions every time Damon closed the distance too much, until his sense of time had been worn away completely. The only thing he knew for sure was that he had been fighting this woman for a very, very long time.

The battle had become a mess. One second they were clashing over ice, the next they were tearing through broken rock, and then they were back in lava again. Kaguya's hair came from every angle while Damon answered with Hiraishin, clones, Rasengan, Wood Release, elements, techniques, anything that would stop her from getting even a second to breathe.

Kaguya was adapting too fast.

But so was he.

His endurance was showing itself on an absurd scale. It no longer mattered if she dragged him through ice, lava, stone, or somewhere where even gravity felt wrong. Damon kept going after her without thinking twice, and every time he appeared again, it was to put even more pressure on her.

Kaguya narrowed her eyes slightly at the blond's actions, but she did not lower her guard. After fighting him for that long, she already knew underestimating him would be a mistake. At any second, he could still seal her if she made even one error. His ability to build strategies almost instantly had genuinely impressed her.

Damon took a brief breath and called to his partner.

"Kurama."

He got no answer.

That alone told him everything he needed to know.

All the Bijuu were out of chakra and could only look at him with worry.

"Damon..." Kurama finally called out.

"Yeah, I see it," Damon said while looking at his hands, the sun and moon marks on them, before lifting his eyes toward the Bijuu. Some of them had shrunk from the lack of chakra, but none of them had abandoned him. None of them had fallen unconscious. At that point, only their will was keeping them awake.

After a short silence, Damon finally spoke.

"Do you still trust me?"

The question caught the Bijuu off guard, especially Kurama. He knew Damon better than anyone there, and if he was asking something like that, then he had a reason.

Even so, none of them hesitated.

They all answered with a single word.

"Always."

Damon smiled at that.

"Good. Then keep watching."

And just like that, the fight continued. But this time it was different. Kaguya and Damon could have kept fighting for weeks, maybe even months.

The dimensions could not.

At first the cracks were small, barely noticeable, but little by little they started growing wider. Every time Kaguya's chakra and Damon's power collided head-on, the whole space around them trembled as if it were about to split apart.

And in the end, that was exactly what happened.

A tear.

The space between them split open all at once, as if the fight had become too much even for that dimension, and both of them were dragged into it before either could stop it.
