Santiago stepped out first. Without hesitation, he opened the other door and reached in, lifting Daniella into his arms once more. She stirred faintly but stayed asleep, her body heavy with exhaustion. Her hand remained pressed lightly against her abdomen in unconscious protection.
He carried her inside the mansion. The grand front doors opened before him. Staff members moved aside quickly, lowering their heads. They sensed the tension in the air and knew better than to speak or stare.
He walked up the wide staircase, down the long corridor, and into her room. Everything was done in silence. He placed her gently on the large bed, adjusting her position with careful precision, then pulled the covers over her, tucking them just enough to keep her warm without restricting her.
