Chapter 62: Broadcast to the World
At the laboratory's main entrance, Caesar Clown strode through the corridor with a contingent of his biochemical troops, laughing his distinctive laugh.
"Shurorororo!"
"Shurorororo!"
He was in high spirits.
"Monet! Look what I've brought back!"
He rounded a corner, expecting to find his secretary waiting.
"Speaking of which, didn't you say Vergo was coming? Where is he? I want him to see what a treasure I've captured!"
He gestured expansively at the unconscious forms carried by his troops—Luffy, Robin, Franky, Smoker, Tashigi, all rendered senseless by his gas.
"Those Straw Hats don't even understand my abilities! That rubber boy was shouting about capturing me! A dream! Shurorororo!"
He rounded the final corner.
And stopped.
Vergo was there.
Vergo's head was there—split in two, one half in Law's hand, the other half and the rest of his body scattered across the corridor in pieces.
Monet lay nearby, fallen beneath the blade of a man in black.
Itachi sheathed Wind Forest Fire.
"So that's how it works. Logia users can be harmed by Haki."
Law's smile was sharp.
"Correct, Itachi-san. I didn't expect you to learn so quickly."
He turned to Caesar.
"What's wrong, Caesar? Missing Vergo?"
Caesar's eyes bulged.
"LAW!!"
His voice cracked.
"Your... your HEART?!"
Law opened his coat, revealing an unscarred chest.
"Fixed it."
"EEEEKKK!"
Caesar's scream was still echoing when Law's finger rose.
"ROOM—SHAMBLES!"
He and Itachi swapped places with the unconscious Luffy and Robin, appearing behind Caesar in an instant.
Caesar's hand moved to release his gas—
Itachi's Haki-coated blade was faster.
"SHISHI SONSON." — Lion's Song.
The slash carved across Caesar's chest. He dropped without a sound.
Law's sword cut through several biochemical troops before he turned, surprise evident.
"Master Itachi... that was Soru just now?! And Haki?!"
Itachi's voice was calm.
"I learned it. Just now."
Minutes later, the Straw Hats slowly regained consciousness.
Luffy shot up, looking around wildly.
"CAESAR! Where's Caesar?!"
Robin and Franky stirred beside him. Robin noticed Smoker and Tashigi, bound in chains nearby.
Then Law's voice.
"Over here."
At his feet, Caesar lay limp, restrained by Seastone chains.
Luffy blinked. "What happened?!"
Law explained—the battle, Vergo's death, Caesar's capture. He summarized efficiently.
"In short, the plan encountered some deviations, but thanks to Itachi, we've completed our objectives ahead of schedule."
Robin absorbed this, nodding.
Luffy immediately bounced to Caesar's side.
Caesar, barely conscious, still managed to curse.
"Damn you, Law! You've ruined everything! Do you know how long I've prepared?! My children—THREE YEARS of work! I—"
Law's blade pressed against his throat.
"Would you like to be cut in half?"
"Eep! F-forgive me!"
Luffy poked the prone scientist.
"What can this guy do? Why did we all pass out?"
Law sighed.
"I forgot to mention—Caesar can extract oxygen from the air around him. Anyone who gets close loses consciousness from hypoxia."
"The counter is simple: stay back and hold your breath."
Luffy's eye twitched.
"WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT EARLIER?!"
Law shrugged. "I forgot."
Robin looked around. "Where's Itachi?"
"With your ship doctor. Searching for research materials."
Franky suddenly remembered something.
"Oh! There's also that monster Caesar summoned from the lake! A SUPER monster!"
Law's brow furrowed. "Monster?"
"Yeah! Looks like a giant slime!"
As they discussed the poison creature Caesar had unleashed, Caesar himself lay in despair.
His plan—his magnificent plan to shock the world by dropping candy on his cultivated poison, creating a cataclysm that would demonstrate his genius—was ruined.
Either these pirates kill me, or they hand me to the Marines.
He'd escaped the Navy once. They wouldn't let him escape again.
But if I can't shock the world...
His hidden hand pressed a remote control.
Originally intended for the underground black market's connected screens. But now?
EVERYONE will see.
Every screen. Every receiver. Everywhere in the world that could catch a signal.
The Marines.
The Four Emperors.
Everyone.
Cameras activated across the island. The nearest Transponder Snail waddled toward him.
"EVERYONE WHO CAN RECEIVE THIS SIGNAL! LOOK!"
Law spun—too late.
"I am the world's greatest scientist! CAESAR CLOWN!"
The broadcast went live.
NEW WORLD—BIG MOM'S TERRITORY
Charlotte Linlin's massive eyes fixed on a screen.
WANO COUNTRY—BEAST PIRATE STRONGHOLD
Kaido's horned shadow loomed over a crackling Den Den Mushi.
MARINEFORD—FLEET ADMIRAL'S OFFICE
Sakazuki's jaw tightened.
THE WHOLE WORLD—EVERY SCREEN, EVERY RECEIVER
The image showed Punk Hazard. The island where two admirals had fought. And gathered there—
"Aokiji and Akainu's battleground! PUNK HAZARD!"
The camera panned.
"Genius scientist! Vicious pirates of the worst generation! A Warlord of the Sea! Vice Admiral of the G-5 branch! ALL GATHERED TOGETHER!"
And then—
The camera focused on the monster.
The giant poison smiled. It split. Multiplied. Spread. Everything it touched dissolved.
"My life's masterpiece! The poison that can destroy the world! SHINOKUNI!"
Caesar's voice rose to a crescendo.
"When it detonates—THE ENTIRE NEW WORLD WILL BE DESTROYED!"
Law's Room expanded. He flew to the control center, blade cutting through the broadcasting equipment in one strike.
Luffy's Jet Stampede cratered Caesar into a wall.
He went limp.
Silence.
The broadcast cut.
But the damage was done.
The whole world had seen.
