Chapter 7: The Choice of Dreams
1. Inner Struggle
Since attending the career planning lecture, Lin Feng and Xia Yu's hearts were filled with struggle.
Lin Feng realized that although mechanical engineering was his interest, the future employment prospects were not optimistic. With the development of artificial intelligence technology, many mechanical engineers' jobs would be replaced by robots.
Xia Yu realized that although Chinese language and literature was her passion, the future employment direction was relatively narrow. Apart from being a teacher, it seemed difficult to find other suitable jobs.
They began to doubt whether the dream they had chosen at the beginning was really suitable for them.
2. Communicating with Parents
Lin Feng and Xia Yu decided to communicate honestly with their parents and express their inner thoughts.
Lin Feng told his parents that he was worried about the future employment prospects of mechanical engineering and hoped to consider other majors with more development potential.
Xia Yu told her parents that she was worried that the employment direction of Chinese language and literature was too narrow and hoped to consider other more practical majors.
The parents were somewhat surprised after hearing Lin Feng and Xia Yu's thoughts. They did not expect that their children would have doubts about their initial choices.
3. Parents' Advice
After some thought, the parents all gave their own advice.
Lin Feng's parents suggested that he consider studying computer science. They believed that computer science was the future trend, and the employment prospects were very broad. Moreover, computer science was also related to mechanical engineering, which could combine his interests.
Xia Yu's parents suggested that she consider studying journalism and communication. They believed that journalism and communication could both give full play to her writing skills and adapt to social needs, and the future employment prospects were also relatively optimistic.
4. Difficult Decisions
Faced with their parents' advice, Lin Feng and Xia Yu fell into even more difficult decisions.
They knew that their parents' advice was well-intentioned and for their future.
However, they were reluctant to give up their initial dreams easily.
They began to think about whether they should give up their interests in order to cater to the needs of society.
5. The Promise at the Bubble Tea Shop
In their most confused moments, Lin Feng and Xia Yu came to the bubble tea shop again.
They silently drank their bubble tea, and no one spoke. The air was filled with a heavy and oppressive atmosphere.
"Lin Feng, have you decided?" Xia Yu broke the silence and asked softly.
"Not yet," Lin Feng shook his head, his tone a little helpless, "I don't know what to do."
"Me neither," Xia Yu sighed and said, "I don't want to give up my dream, but I'm also afraid that life will be difficult in the future."
"Maybe, we can find another way to realize our dreams," Lin Feng said suddenly.
"What do you mean?" Xia Yu asked suspiciously.
"We can choose a major that can both give full play to our strengths and adapt to social needs," Lin Feng explained, "Then, we can use our spare time to continue pursuing our dreams."
"You mean, we can turn our dreams into hobbies?" Xia Yu asked.
"Yes," Lin Feng nodded and said, "This way, we can have a stable job and pursue what we like."
Xia Yu thought for a while and felt that Lin Feng's suggestion made sense. She nodded and said, "Okay, that's it."
They agreed that no matter what major they chose in the future, they would support each other, encourage each other, and use their spare time to continue pursuing their dreams together.
