Chapter 11 - Midnight Encounter

Chapter 10 — Midnight Encounter

The mansion was silent. Lina couldn't sleep, her mind racing with the events of the past days — the mysterious letter, the woman in black, and the ever-present tension with Adrian.

She slipped out of bed quietly, careful not to wake the staff. The corridors stretched endlessly, shadows twisting like fingers in the dim light. Every creak made her heart jump.

Near the study, she saw a faint glow. Curiosity overpowered fear. She stepped closer and froze.

Adrian was there, working late, papers spread across the desk. His expression was serious, but for the first time, Lina noticed something softer in his eyes — a glimpse of fatigue, vulnerability, and perhaps trust.

"You shouldn't be up," he said, not looking at her directly.

"I… couldn't sleep," Lina admitted, keeping her voice steady despite the pounding of her heart.

Adrian finally turned, his gaze locking with hers. "There's a lot you don't understand yet. About this house… about me."

"I know," Lina whispered. "I'm trying."

A tense silence stretched between them. The air was thick with unspoken words, and Lina felt a strange connection forming — a bond built on shared tension and understanding.

But then, a sound shattered the moment. The faintest creak of the floorboards came from the hallway behind her.

Lina stiffened. "Did you hear that?"

Adrian's eyes narrowed. "Stay here."

Before she could protest, he moved silently toward the hallway. Lina held her breath, heart racing, as the shadows seemed to grow longer, darker.

A soft whisper floated through the air:

"You shouldn't be here…"

And just like that, a shadow disappeared around the corner, leaving only the echo of footsteps.

Lina's hands shook. The mansion, once familiar, felt like a labyrinth of secrets and danger. And she realized something chilling:

This was only the beginning.

Someone else was inside the mansion. Watching. Waiting.

And whatever their purpose, it would change everything.
