Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Infinity Emperor System (2)

So let me get this straight—I got pulled into my favorite game, and while my system's a bit of a pain, it seems solid… assuming my luck holds up. It's basically like a gacha system, which I'm more than happy about—ecstatic, actually.

Where are we now? Oh right—I've been absorbing that clone of mine for over an hour now, and I'm finally almost done.

[Congratulations, host—you've successfully absorbed your clone! You now have access to your status window.]

"Really, system?! I thought rolling a six would make me strong! You said it was a huge deal!" I practically shouted, staring at the screen floating in front of me.

[Host, do you have any idea how rare it is to awaken an unawakened human? Most people are born with their abilities—you're lucky just to have C+ mana!]

Oh right… I'd forgotten that. Normal humans can't just become awakeners out of nowhere—it's something you're born with.

"Okay, okay… thanks, I guess. But what about my identity here? Same name as mine, but how did I even get into this place?"

[Your cover is that you're an orphan who scored perfect marks on the entrance exam—you earned a full scholarship to the "Best Academy" in the world.]

"Perfect marks?!"

I felt my stomach drop. I'm a high school dropout who hasn't touched a textbook in years—now I'm supposed to be some kind of model student?

"But system, I don't know anything! What happens if there's a test? And what day is it—are we past the assessment already?"

[The assessment hasn't started yet, and we'll help you keep up with your studies.]

As the system spoke, a pair of sleek glasses materialized on my face.

"Whoa—these look awesome! I always wanted glasses but was too lazy to go get them."

[This is the "Eye of Knowledge." Any question you have—even about why you were summoned—will display the answer right before your eyes. Though it does consume mana with each use.]

"Won't I get caught cheating?"

[No chance—this technology is far beyond anything in this world. It might look like ordinary eyewear, but it's been enchanted with the Eye of Knowledge ability.]

"Alright, that's a relief. Thanks."

I let out a long sigh, then squared my shoulders and straightened up—for the first time since I'd been pulled here, I felt like I needed to take this seriously.

"So tell me—why did you summon me here? What's my mission? Am I supposed to save the world?"

[...]

The system went quiet for several heartbeats. Just when I was about to ask again, it finally spoke.

[You have no mission.]

"What?!"

[Just be yourself.]

"Huh? What do you mean by that?"

[Exactly what it sounds like. We only ask one thing of you—just be who you are.]

I could almost feel the system grinning at me, but I had no idea what it meant.

"Well, I'm glad it's not anything too—AAAAGH!"

Before I could finish, a searing pain ripped through me, starting from my toes and shooting all the way up to my skull. I doubled over, clutching my head as waves of agony washed over me.

"What in the world is this?! UGHHH—it hurts so damn much!"
