"The safety is on the left side. Push down to release."
Nico handed the matte-black Glock 19 to Mara across the centre console of the armoured sedan. They were speeding through the financial district, weaving in and out of traffic at eighty miles an hour.
"I remember how to use it," Mara said as she took the weapon. "You showed me in the basement."
"The paper target in the basement didn't carry automatic rifles," Nico said as he scanned the streets ahead. "Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire."
Mara was holding the gun in her lap. Her hands were shaking slighly, even though she was trying to keep them in check. "I told you I was coming with you."
"And I agreed, right?" Nico replied. "But I didn't say you'd seeing any action. You are here to understand the physical cost of her decisions, not to die for them. I still need you alive."
