Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Special-Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer

"Well, if I want to push little Shun up to special grade sorcerer, I need something visible on paper."

Gojo Satoru spoke into the phone while chewing a mouthful of fresh cream daifuku.

"I know you have the strength for it, but you still need achievements for others to see."

"Those old geezers are a real pain."

When he mentioned them, there was not the slightest hint of respect in his tone, even though several of them technically counted as his elders.

"Is this boring ranking really necessary?"

Shun was not particularly interested in the jujutsu ranking system.

Was he short on money?

Not at all. Just the techniques he developed every year were enough for him to rake in a fortune.

Did he lack connections?

He did not.

Among those who bought his techniques were many higher ups and people from the big clans.

He already had all of that, so why should he run around just to earn some meaningless title like "special grade sorcerer"?

In his eyes, "special grade" was practically a burden.

Shun's voice carried open disdain. "Besides, I strongly suspect the reason you want me ranked as special grade is so you can pile more dirty work and heavy lifting on me."

"Uu, so mean, you actually said that about me."

Satoru made an exaggerated sobbing noise.

"How could I possibly be that kind of person?"

The next second, he changed back to his usual tone. "Come on, Shun, help me out. Even I get headaches dealing with the higher ups."

Satoru was strong, and he hated rules, but as long as you were alive in this world, you would always be bound by some of them.

Even someone like Gojo Satoru was no exception.

"Get Okkotsu-senpai to help you. He is a special grade too, right?"

Shun still did not budge.

If he really became a special grade sorcerer, his schedule would become even more packed than before.

He would not even have time to properly research curses.

"Okkotsu, that kid..."

Satoru was clearly very satisfied with that student.

"He can handle a lot, but in some areas, you are still better, Shun."

"Help me out, my adorable little Shun."

On Shun's side of the call, it was almost like Satoru had turned into a tiny five-centimeter chibi version of himself.

"Uncle... do not be like that."

Shun really had a hard time dealing with this unserious Satoru.

His uncle was even better at acting spoiled than he was.

"Ehehe."

At this point, Satoru already knew his nephew would eventually go along with him.

What a super adorable nephew.

Looking out the window at the traffic below, Shun said, "I am actually quite interested in that cursed spirit too. I just do not know if I can really deal with her."

After two encounters, he had started to notice something.

That cursed spirit was very similar to the curse attached to his own body.

She was completely different from the curses he had fought in the past.

"It is fine. If you cannot handle it, then withdraw. I do not want you getting hurt."

Satoru sounded like he was genuinely worried.

"Heh."

Shun let out a cold little laugh. "Funny, I remember every time I got hurt in the past, you were pretty happy about it."

"Was I?"

"Then let me ask, who was the one doodling on my bandages and even sticking flowers in them?"

He still remembered when he had been weaker as a kid and got badly injured by cursed spirits over and over.

Back then, Satoru had not comforted or encouraged him. He just messed with him at his bedside.

It really made people want to blow up.

"That was me trying to distract you."

Satoru's voice became even less proper.

"..."

For a moment, Shun had nothing to say.

Although Satoru sounded like he was joking around, Shun had to admit that back then, being teased really did work better than being comforted.

"Forget it," Shun said, not wanting to stay on that topic. "I will do my best here. Uncle, how are things on your side?"

"I only found a couple of Ryomen Sukuna's fingers. Nothing special."

Shun's tone cooled back to its earlier indifference.

Of course.

From the very beginning, Satoru had planned to dump everything on him.

Shun shook his head helplessly. "Fine, whatever. I get it."

"Then good luck, Shun. Bye bye."

They hung up.

...

After ending the call, Gojo Satoru lay back in a rocking chair, chewing on the daifuku he just bought, slowly rocking back and forth.

The corner of his mouth curved up. He clearly had something brewing in that head of his.

"Why can he not find the main body?"

"This question is actually very simple, little Shun."

Satoru seemed to know far more than he had said.

Well, in the first place, Shun had only gone to Sendai because of him.

He tossed the skewer into the trash.

"Your uncle's promises are always good, you know."
