Matteo's expression instantly hardened, his protective instincts flaring as his eyes locked onto Adrian. "No, baby. You're staying right here so I can keep taking care of you."
"No, Matteo," Adrian argued, his voice cracking slightly with emotion. "I want you to have a good time with your friend. Maya can take care of me at my place."
"You are not going anywhere," Matteo commanded, his tone leaving no room for argument. "You're staying here with me, Adrian. Stop being stubborn."
A wave of hurt and anger washed over Adrian. He snapped, glaring right back at Matteo.
"You can't control me! We are not even married, Matteo. Why do I need to stay in the same room with you? Why do I even need to stay with you at all? I'm leaving, and you can't stop me!"
Matteo stared at Adrian, his dark eyes turning dangerously cold. The atmosphere in the room instantly grew heavy.
