Chapter 1 - The Secret Signal of the Forest(An Adventure Thriller)

The Secret Signal of the Forest

(An Adventure Thriller)

1. The Call of the Mountains

On the outskirts of Darjeeling lies a small mountain village—Chunabhati. Though it exists on the map, very few people know of it. Surrounded by dense forests and narrow roads often veiled in mist, the nights there bring a silence so profound, it feels as if the world has stopped.

Rithwik and Ananya—two young travel content creators from Kolkata—are there. Both share a passion for exploring mysterious, offbeat locations. Rithwik is the reckless one, with adventure in his blood. Ananya, by contrast, is calm, possessing sharp observational skills and a level head in a crisis.

They came to this village following a strange lead. An old villager named Dhiren Tamang had told them:

"Lights flicker deep inside this forest at night. But no one lives there. Years ago, the government conducted an 'experiment' here. Since then, strange things have been happening."

Rithwik's eyes gleamed with excitement. Ananya remained quiet, watching the creases on the old man's face—the fear she saw wasn't an act.

2. The First Entry

The next afternoon, they set off toward the forest, armed with cameras, torches, power banks, and a drone. As they entered the woods, a peculiar sensation washed over them. The chirping of birds suddenly ceased. Even the air felt heavy.

Ananya stopped abruptly. "Rithwik, look at this."

On a massive Sal tree, strange symbols were carved with something sharp—three triangles side by side. A little further ahead, the same mark appeared again.

"Someone has marked the trail," Ananya said.

"But why?"

Rithwik smiled. "For us, of course! Let's go."

3. The Vanishing Light

As evening fell, the mist thickened. Just then, a faint, bluish light appeared in the distance. The light was steady, but there were no houses nearby.

Rithwik whispered, "Camera on. This will be the best footage of the day."

The more they approached, the further the light seemed to drift away—as if leading them into a trap. Suddenly, Ananya's foot slipped. She almost fell into a pit, but Rithwik caught her hand just in time.

Looking down, they saw a hidden iron staircase leading underground. They looked at each other. Turn back? Or go down? Curiosity won over fear.

4. The Underground Base

Descending the stairs, a cold, damp draft hit their faces. Below was a large chamber. On the walls were old maps, rusted machinery, and a massive radio transmitter in the corner.

Ananya wiped away the dust and picked up a diary. On the first page, it read:

"Secret Research Center – 1987"

Inside, the notes said:

"We are sending high-powered signals here. Objective—to verify the existence of life in deep space. But on the third night, a signal returned. Source: Unknown."

Rithwik froze. "You mean... someone answered?"

Just then, the radio began to crackle. Then, a distorted voice drifted through:

"...Why... have you... come..."

Ananya's heart raced. "This isn't live. It could be a recording."

But the voice came again: "Signal active..."

5. Fragments of Truth

In another corner, they found a hidden control panel. There was a lever with a label beside it: "Main Power – Emergency Shutdown."

The last page of the diary warned:

"If anyone comes here again and the signal awakens—shut down the switch. Otherwise, they will find the way."

Suddenly, the ground began to shake. The roar of the radio grew louder. The wall lights flickered on by themselves. In front of the door, a strange, shadowy figure began to manifest. It had no clear physical body, yet its presence was undeniable.

Rithwik summoned his courage and pulled the lever down. In an instant, everything went black. Silence.

6. The Morning Unease

They emerged from the forest in the light of dawn. It felt like it was all over. But it wasn't.

Rithwik checked his camera—all the footage was gone. Except for one frame at the very end.

In a grainy photo of the blue light, Rithwik and Ananya stood in the foreground. And behind them stood a third shadow.

Ananya whispered, "Did we really manage to turn off the switch?"

At that exact moment, a notification popped up on Rithwik's phone. A message from an unknown number:

"Signal re-established."

They both looked toward the sky. Far away, on the mountain peak, that bluish light was glowing once again.

7. The Unfinished War

Rithwik took a deep breath. "Do we run away? Or do we find out the truth once and for all?"

There was no fear in Ananya's eyes anymore. Only determination.

"This time, we return prepared. This isn't just an adventure. It's a warning."

Atop the mountain, the light began to pulse slowly. As if it were waiting.

This is not the end...

Because some signals, once awakened, can never be silenced.
