Chapter 42 - The Final Facility

🌑 Episode 42

The Final Facility

Rain poured over the city.

Dark clouds covered the sky as if the world itself was holding its breath.

Inside the underground room, Lena projected the map again.

The red blinking point remained.

The final facility.

Ryan crossed his arms.

"This place… feels different."

Victor nodded.

"Because it is."

Lena zoomed in.

"No public records. No digital footprint. It's like it doesn't exist."

Ariba stared at the screen.

"But it does."

Her voice was calm.

Too calm.

Ryan looked at her carefully.

"You don't have to rush into this."

Ariba shook her head.

"He wants me there."

Victor added,

"And that means it's dangerous."

Ariba turned toward them.

"It was always dangerous."

Silence.

Then Lena spoke,

"There's only one way in."

She pointed at a narrow underground route.

"An old service tunnel. Probably used years ago."

Ryan sighed.

"So… another tunnel."

Victor smirked slightly.

"At least we're getting used to it."

Ariba didn't smile.

"When do we go?"

Lena looked at her.

"Tonight."

Hours later…

The rain had slowed, but the streets were still wet and empty.

The four of them stood near a broken entrance hidden behind an abandoned subway station.

Victor pushed open the rusted gate.

"This is it."

Cold air rushed out.

Ryan checked his flashlight.

"Last chance to turn back."

No one moved.

Ariba stepped forward first.

"I'm done turning back."

They entered.

The tunnel was darker than the others.

Older.

Forgotten.

Their footsteps echoed as they moved deeper.

Lena whispered,

"This place hasn't been used in years…"

Victor replied quietly,

"Or hasn't been discovered."

Suddenly—

A faint humming sound filled the tunnel.

Ryan stopped.

"Do you hear that?"

Ariba nodded.

"Yes…"

The sound grew louder.

Like electricity.

Like something alive.

They reached a large metal door at the end of the tunnel.

Unlike the others—

This one was clean.

New.

Active.

Lena stepped forward slowly.

"This is it."

Ariba felt that strange pull again.

Stronger this time.

Like the place was calling her.

Victor looked at her.

"Same feeling?"

Ariba nodded.

"Yes."

Ryan frowned.

"That's not normal."

Ariba raised her hand slowly.

The others watched in silence.

Her fingers touched the surface of the door.

For a second—

Nothing happened.

Then suddenly—

🔓 ACCESS GRANTED – SUBJECT A-17

Everyone froze.

Ryan whispered,

"It recognized you again…"

The massive door slowly opened.

Bright white light poured out.

Blinding.

Cold.

Artificial.

Ariba stepped inside.

The others followed.

Inside—

A massive laboratory.

More advanced than anything they had seen before.

Machines.

Screens.

And in the center—

A glass chamber.

Empty.

Victor looked around.

"This is where it started."

Lena's voice trembled slightly.

"No…"

"This is where it continues."

Suddenly—

The lights dimmed.

The screens turned on.

And the Architect appeared again.

This time…

Closer than ever.

"Welcome home, Ariba."

Ariba's heart stopped for a moment.

Ryan stepped forward.

"This ends tonight."

The Architect smiled faintly.

"Oh, it already ended once."

He looked directly at Ariba.

"Tonight… it begins again."

The doors behind them slammed shut.

Locked.

Sealed.

No escape.

And for the first time—

Ariba realized—

She didn't just enter the enemy's base.

She entered her past.

To Be Continued…
