Meredith Rowan, silent until now, suddenly erupted. She shot up from her seat, her expression grave and her gaze resolute. "I'm sorry," she said, "but I cannot be Miss Thorne's god-relative!"
At her words, all eyes snapped to Meredith Rowan, as if they were only just now noticing her presence.
Susan Langley's reaction was the strongest and swiftest. She shot to her feet as well, her tone one of pure exasperation. "What nonsense are you spouting? Can't you see Warren is ready to make an enemy of the world for your sake?"
