The car drove out of Qingshan Village, heading toward Yangcheng along the country road.
The night was deep, and it was pitch black outside, with only the car's headlights illuminating a small stretch of road ahead. Jiang Yixia sat in the passenger seat, watching the shadows of the trees fly backward, her mind a tangled mess.
Lu Fan glanced at her in the rearview mirror but didn't disturb her, simply continuing to drive in silence.
After a good while, Jiang Yixia broke the silence, her gaze still fixed out the window. "These past few days... thank you."
Lu Fan paused for a moment, then chuckled. "Thank me for what?"
Although Jiang Yixia knew he was just playing coy, her tone was serious. "Thank you for the care and concern you've shown my parents these last few days. Repairing the aqueduct, catching fish, selling the fish... and cheering them up today. I know all about it."
