Some wealthy people once wanted to try it for the novelty. Where there's demand, there's a market. Someone hunted an elephant, sold it to a rich man, and earned tens of thousands of US dollars.
As it turned out, the rich man declared it tasted absolutely terrible after trying it. Perhaps only the trunk and tongue were somewhat tender.
However, the elephant's hide could be used to make drums, and its ivory was an exceptionally rare material. It was hard yet easy to carve, often used to create precious handicrafts and decorations. It could even be used for medical equipment like bone pins and orthopedic devices.
