"Why not? She's a Priest, after all."
"Because she's a Half-Demon, Colin," Kase said. "Either her ancestors were villains who made deals with Demons, or she's been up to no good herself. It's not a good thing. Who knows if her Priest status is just a disguise created with some Evil Skill?"
"But, uh... how should I put this?" Colin scratched his chin. "It's not that I completely trust her."
"That's for the best. I know what you're trying to say. It's because I'm a Half-Orc that I know what these 'half' folks go through."
Kase said grimly, "People won't give them jobs, they won't give them bread, and they certainly won't give them kindness. Humans rarely even fully trust a Half-Elf."
"Think about it. What happens to people like that in the end? They try to stick together with their own kind, following rules only they know. Then, to survive, they turn to stealing, cheating, or robbing on the streets, trading their honor for something to eat."
Colin nodded silently.
