Wei'en looked at Mitra in surprise. 'Is she serious?'
Of the three choices he had just offered, the first—a Master-Servant Contract—and the third—death—were clearly not what he wanted.
His only goal had been for Mitra to choose the second option: to sign a contract of equals and help him gather intelligence on Ales.
'Isn't that the best choice?'
"You're sure?"
Mitra looked the young Wizard straight in the eye. Seeing the surprise on his face, the corners of her mouth curved up, and she actually began to laugh.
'This choice is quite unexpected, isn't it?'
'In fact, I'm doing this on purpose.'
However, she hadn't said it just to surprise Wei'en. It was the choice she had genuinely made after a few short minutes of consideration.
Although she was a Favored One of the Desire Sect, unlike the other Favored Ones, she had no faith to speak of in that Sovereign of Desire.
In fact, it was closer to loathing!
