Most terrifying of all were the luminous mega-veins rising from the seabed.
Bands of eerie green light writhed in the depths like living creatures, each spasm triggering a new, massive seaquake. Where the veins of light converged, transparent bubbles the size of hills swelled upward. The shockwave from a bursting bubble could toss a three-masted galleon into the clouds. In the instant one bubble detonated, it was possible to glimpse a creature in Scale Armor coiled within the core of the light. The visible section of its tail fin alone was as large as an island, and molten, golden-red patterns flowed between its cyan-gray scales.
At midnight, a torrential rain mixed with hail began to pour down.
