This brought up the distinction between Magic Books and Magical Books, a classification unique to Witches. The former couldn't be used for Casting, but one could learn the Magic recorded inside. The latter could be used for Casting, but the Magic it contained could not be learned.
For Wizards, however, things were simpler. Magic Books and Magical Books were one and the same category. They didn't care about a book's Casting Ability; they only used them for learning.
The reason was simple: while Casting from a Magical Book was convenient, it was far too rigid. It might consume slightly less Magic Power, but it couldn't compare to the freedom that came with mastering the Magic for oneself.
