Cassie Aldrin's anger flared even brighter at Preston Forrest's question. 'This is the man who's slept beside me for over a decade, and he doesn't even know why I'm angry.'
Suddenly, the reason for Cassie Aldrin's fury shifted from not winning the award to Preston Forrest's thoughtlessness.
From there, she began to feel truly pathetic for having given herself to such a man.
She felt that all her years of hard work had been for nothing.
So she suddenly yelled, "Stop the car!"
The driver instinctively hit the brakes and waited silently for the next instruction.
Cassie Aldrin yanked on the door handle, but it was locked and wouldn't open. She bellowed, "Unlock the door!"
Preston Forrest frowned and reminded her, "What are you doing? We're on a public street! If you get out like this, aren't you afraid reporters will see you?!"
His words were a stark reminder, and Cassie Aldrin pulled her hand back from the door.
