"In biology, 'incompatible' is usually a matter of species," Lianne said, unhurried and unfazed. "I know I'm a human. May I ask what species you believe your son to be?"
Eleanor Hawthorne chuckled, as if at Lianne's naivety. "Young, idealistic, and driven by love, without any thought to the practicalities. You don't know your own limits. Do you really think you can pass muster with the Sinclair family elders?"
"Do you believe your son isn't exceptional enough that you need to personally select a wife for him? Or do you think he has poor judgment and is easily deceived?" Lianne retorted directly. "Are you dissatisfied with the person he's chosen, or are you dissatisfied with him? There isn't much of a difference, really. But I truly don't understand what it is about your son that displeases you."
This young woman seemed easygoing, gentle, and mild-mannered, with a pleasant speaking voice. In reality, she possessed an incredibly strong sense of self.
