Rosalind Lowell stood to the side, her face beet red. Mrs. Tanner suddenly wore a gossipy expression and whispered, "Young Madam, don't tell me you and the young master just… you know?"
"No," she retorted, almost as a knee-jerk reaction. Her face flushed an even deeper shade of red. 'We absolutely didn't do that...'
Then it suddenly occurred to her that she and Alaric Davenport were husband and wife, so that sort of thing was normal. "Er, yes. I've just been a bit tired these past few days…"
She watched Mrs. Tanner's knowing, almost motherly smile—an expression that said she was an experienced woman who understood completely. Rosalind instantly regretted what she'd said. 'Whether we did it or not, the wedding was days ago. It's not that big a deal that I got my period, is it?'
"No, that's not it. I got my period." Even though Rosalind knew this was perfectly normal, she was still embarrassed. 'Alaric must have asked Mrs. Tanner to handle this.'
