Chapter 3 - Chapter 1: Return to Before the Apocalypse

In the apocalypse, humans possess five attributes: Life, Strength, agility, spiritual power, and Space.

Everyone is born with at least some value in the first four attributes. However, the spatial attribute is unique. Only a small fraction of people possess it—the chosen few. The vast majority have a spatial attribute of zero.

Even if they managed to acquire the spatial attribute later through abnormal treasures or Mutant Beast Crystal Stones, they would still need to accumulate at least 100 points for a chance to unlock a Space.

What was the significance of 100 points?

To put it this way: the Crystal Stone from a single Basic-level Mutant Beast contained only one attribute point, and there was only a minuscule chance of it being a spatial attribute. To save up 100 spatial attribute points, you would have to kill at least 10,000 Basic-level Mutant Beasts.

In her past life, the squad Tang Mo belonged to could only hunt one or two Basic-level Mutant Beasts per month. The loot they obtained then had to be exchanged for supplies and split among a dozen or so people.

That was why everyone in the apocalypse knew that having a Space was purely a matter of fate. You either had it from the start, or you didn't. If you weren't born with it, a normal person could forget about ever acquiring one.

In her last life, Tang Mo's spatial attribute was also zero, but she had the Jade Pendant she had worn for more than a decade!

When she was first trapped in the school, Tang Mo had discovered something different about her Jade Pendant—it actually contained a space of over ten square meters. Most importantly, this space wasn't empty. It was filled to the brim with supplies.

Tang Mo knew with a single glance that the space was a perfect replica of her family's supermarket!

She had personally stocked the shelves in their supermarket during summer break; how could she not recognize the familiar layout?

Her family's little supermarket had been transported into the space! What's more, everything inside could be taken out and used. For Tang Mo, who was trapped in the school with nothing to eat or drink, this was a massive, wonderful surprise. But she hadn't even been happy for two days before she accidentally lost the Jade Pendant while on a mission to catch fish in the pond.

The Jade Pendant itself wasn't valuable, so in the dozen-plus years she'd worn it, she had never replaced the original cord. The cord had long since become frayed, and it snapped when she least expected it.

It would have been one thing if she had never possessed the Space Jade Pendant. But to have had it and then lost it was a devastating blow to Tang Mo. She searched the water alone for three days and three nights but found nothing. In the end, so hungry she had no strength left, she was forced to give up.

Not two days later, Tang Mo lost contact with her mother as well.

After that, she became listless and fell into a daze, unable to muster any enthusiasm for anything. She neglected her tasks, which made her fellow students very critical of her. For the next six months, Tang Mo's life was miserable, and her food rations dwindled.

Looking at the Jade Pendant in her hand, not yet lost this time, Tang Mo caressed it again and again. 'This is too important. I will never, ever let it get lost again. I'd rather lose myself than lose it.'

Although she knew the Jade Pendant's mutation didn't appear until after the apocalypse began, Tang Mo couldn't resist. She closed her eyes, gripping the pendant tightly in one hand, and tried to visualize it with all her might.

'If this were after the apocalypse, all I'd need to do is touch the Jade Pendant with a sliver of my spiritual power. It wouldn't be this much trouble.'

But now, without any spiritual power, this troublesome method was the only way she could try.
