Dan was currently immersed in reviewing the intricate details of a new technique he had recently perfected—a methodology of profound importance to him personally. Its foundation, like so much of his work, was rooted deeply in the art of Fuinjutsu.
In truth, this could be classified as a devastatingly powerful and hazardous offensive technique if utilized in such a manner. However, for Dan, its primary purpose was entirely different; it was, first and foremost, a tool for his own progression.
Over the long years past, despite his disciplined daily regimen within the five-hundred-meter deep aquatic shaft, the effectiveness of this training had gradually diminished. The reason was simple and direct: as his physical strength surged exponentially through the years—bolstered by the continuous evolution of the Vitality Seal and his own relentless conditioning—his body had become formidable beyond measure.
The crushing weight at that depth, which had once presented a genuine challenge and immense physical strain, no longer posed a significant obstacle. His physique had adapted entirely to the environment. The training had become... ordinary. Comfortable, even. It no longer pushed him to his absolute limits or extracted the full potential of his latent capabilities. This meant the developmental utility that had brought him to his current heights was fading.
Faced with this plateau, two distinct paths for resolution lay before him:
The first path was to simply increase the physical depth, carving an even deeper shaft. Instead of five hundred meters, he could descend to a thousand, two thousand, or even three thousand meters. As he grew stronger, he would simply dig deeper. It was a straightforward, linear solution.
However, Dan viewed this approach as utterly impractical in the long term. His strength would continue to increase indefinitely; of that, he was certain. Would he then be forced to spend his existence digging kilometers into the earth every time he surpassed a limit? Furthermore, the sheer volume of water required to fill such a void would be astronomical. It was illogical, a waste of time, and eventually impossible—at a certain depth, he would encounter the geothermal heat of the planet's core or unstable geological strata. He discarded the notion entirely.
The second path, and the one he ultimately chose, was far more complex but infinitely more elegant: to innovate a completely new solution. Rather than relying on the natural hydrostatic pressure provided by depth... why not create an artificial atmospheric pressure himself? A pressure that could be controlled, modulated, and increased almost without limit, regardless of location.
The concept was simple in theory, but its execution was daunting. He conceived a technique based on advanced Fuinjutsu, similar in principle to the Chakra storage seals Hoshi had used in her successful project. However, the substance this technique sought to contain was fundamentally different. Not energy, but... air.
The technique would continuously draw in the surrounding atmosphere—its molecules, its atoms, everything—and compress them with staggering force into a precisely defined, confined zone. This, in turn, would directly and massively increase the total atmospheric pressure within that specific area. An artificial pressure, fully controllable, capable of being heightened to terrifying levels—many times the weight of the natural world.
This was exactly what he required to create a personal training sanctuary anywhere, at any pressure level he desired. No digging was necessary. No descent into the abyss was required. He would simply activate the seal, step into the pressurized zone, and train. It was perfect, efficient, and infinitely scalable.
Despite the theoretical simplicity, the practical application was fraught with peril. Dan spent years conducting varied experiments, navigating complex research and repeated failures. He always performed these tests in a remote location, hundreds of kilometers away from the main family base, deep within the untamed wilderness.
The reason was clear: the failed experiments were catastrophic. They resulted in massive aerial explosions and shockwaves that leveled forests and pulverized the earth. Had he conducted these tests near the base, the collateral damage would have been severe, potentially harming a family member by mistake.
Finally, after years of grueling labor and persistence, he mastered it. The technique functioned flawlessly. Furthermore, as a useful byproduct of this extensive research, he managed to derive highly potent and destructive offensive applications—modified versions of the same principle.
Instead of using the air pressure for training, it could be wielded as a weapon. Compressing a massive volume of air into a minute point and then releasing it suddenly toward a foe would result in a devastating concussive blast—a pressure wave capable of crushing everything in its path. It was lethal and highly effective against large groups of enemies. Dan incorporated this offensive variant into the family's general training curriculum, making it available to those of his children who specialized in Fuinjutsu and possessed the requisite strength. It served as a formidable new addition to the family's arsenal.
Yet, his primary training technique—the one he developed for himself and officially named the "Seal of Depth"—remained a truly dangerous art. It could be used offensively with ease, particularly by true Fuinjutsu specialists who understood seals at a level approaching his own. They could manipulate it in various destructive ways, but it remained hazardous even to the user.
It required more than just an understanding of seals; it demanded a level of Chakra control that was essentially non-human. Dan was certain that no one in his family, at least at their current stage, had attained the precision necessary to safely wield the Seal of Depth.
Consequently, he made a clear resolution: he had no intention of teaching it to anyone. Not even to his most trusted sons, nor to Hoshi, who was his closest assistant. No one.
To him, it was a forbidden art for almost any ordinary or even powerful individual. The risk of a single error far outweighed any potential benefit. It was a power reserved solely for the one who could shoulder its weight without faltering.
