Chapter 51 - Ch-50. (It's just a cat.).

As I was still internally celebrating my luck, a thought struck me.

Mary had mentioned that Josephine had walked entirely around the exterior of the door, excusing her movements by claiming she wanted to admire the interior design through the glass window.

My eyes quickly darted along the stone wall until they landed on the small, high window adjacent to the frame. The latch was ancient, slightly rusted, and sat just within reach.

A triumphant smile grew across my face. That's how she did it, I thought proudly. She didn't need the key, but she just slipped it through the window.

I stepped up to the ledge, raising my uninjured hand to push the glass pane aside so I could look inside, but as my fingers reached out in the dark, my elbow caught the edge of a heavy, terracotta flowerpot resting on the stone sill.

Time completely slowed down. I lunged forward with my broken wrist on pure reflex, but it was too late.
