Ray POV
Lara nodded obediently, but her eyes showed extreme distress, as if she was about to break down any second.
I didn't know if this little girl would cooperate with Detective Penn by telling the truth, or if she'd lie because of Clarissa. But I disliked how Lara actually made me restless now.
"Then, would you mind telling me what happened during that day?" Detective Penn asked.
"Uhm… it started with Mommy and I coming into Dad—I-I mean, Uncle Miles' home to surprise Aurora on her birthday…" Lara murmured.
"That useless little shit—!" Clarissa cursed immediately upon hearing Lara accidentally slip out and call Miles "Dad" instead of "Uncle."
She was already grabbing the door handle, ready to burst in and give Lara a good slap, but I grabbed her arm.
"Calm down and watch what she will say," I warned. "Going in will only make things worse."
"B-but—!" Clarissa looked distressed, but still let go of the door handle in the end.
"Then?" Detective Penn asked her to continue.
