Chapter 39 - Words That Changed Everything

Katrina sat on the edge of her bed, her phone still in her hand.

Her heart was restless.

Her thoughts—completely tangled.

Katrina (thinking):

What should I do now…?

Should I go… or not…?

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

Running away wouldn't solve anything.

Slowly, she stood up.

"I'll go…" she whispered.

At the Park

The night had settled quietly over the city.

The park was calm, almost empty, with only a few streetlights glowing softly in the darkness.

Katrina stood under one of them.

The light fell gently on her face—but her expression was far from calm.

She held her phone tightly and called him.

At Ethan's House

Ethan was sitting on the edge of his bed, lost and restless.

Ethan (thinking):

What should I do…?

His phone rang.

He picked it up instantly.

"Hii… Katrina?"

"Can we meet?" her voice was soft, but serious.

Ethan didn't hesitate.

"Yes. Where are you?"

"I'm at the park nearby."

"I'm coming."

"I'll wait."

The call ended.

Ethan stood up immediately and rushed out of his room.

"Where are you going in such a hurry?" his mother asked, surprised.

"Just meeting a friend. Bye!" he said quickly, already heading out.

She watched him leave, confused.

Ethan's mother (thinking):

What's going on with him these days…?

Maybe… it's that girl from across the street…

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

She does come from a wealthy family…

Back at the Park

Katrina stood under the streetlight, waiting.

Every second felt longer than usual.

Her heart beat faster with every passing moment.

Then—

She saw him.

Ethan.

Walking toward her.

His steps slowed as he got closer.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

They just looked at each other.

There was hesitation.

Nervousness.

And something deeper—something unspoken.

The Conversation

"Hii, Katrina…" Ethan said, adjusting his hair nervously.

"Hii… good evening," Katrina replied softly.

"How are you?"

Ethan "I'm… good. You?

Katrina "I'm fine."

A brief silence followed.

Then Ethan said, "Let's walk."

"Yeah…"

They started walking side by side.

The night was quiet—but their hearts were loud.

Ethan glanced at her.

She looked… distant.

A little sad.

A little lost.

Katrina finally spoke.

"You said you wanted to tell me something."

Ethan hesitated.

"Yeah… but… I don't think I can say it here."

Katrina stopped walking.

"Then where?" she asked.

"I don't have much time."

Ethan looked at her, confused.

"Why are you in such a hurry…?"

Katrina took a few steps ahead, her anxiety rising.

"Please just say it… so I can go."

Ethan stopped behind her.

"Katrina…"

She turned back slowly.

Her heart felt like it had stopped.

Ethan looked at her—nervous, uncertain.

But then he gathered courage.

"Katrina… the thing is… I…"

His words got stuck.

Katrina's breath hitched.

Everything around them faded.

Ethan closed his eyes for a moment… and then—

"I like you."

Silence.

Katrina froze.

Her eyes widened.

Her heart… stopped.

Ethan opened his eyes, his voice trembling slightly—

"I like you, Katrina… I mean… I love you."

He stepped a little closer.

"And not anyone else… please don't think that way."

His voice was honest.

Raw.

Unfiltered.

"I wanted to tell you this properly… but… you weren't coming."

Katrina couldn't move.

She slowly walked toward him.

Step by step.

Ethan's heartbeat grew louder.

She stopped right in front of him.

Her gaze lowered.

Her hands slightly trembling.

Ethan continued, his voice softer now—

"It's not just been a few months…"

He smiled faintly, remembering.

"The first time I saw you… was two years ago."

Katrina looked up at him, shocked.

"You came here… and then disappeared."

He chuckled softly.

"But I kept waiting… without even knowing if I'd ever see you again."

His eyes softened.

"And then… you came back."

Katrina felt like time had stopped.

Everything around her blurred.

Only his words remained.

Only him.

She looked at him—really looked at him this time.

And in that moment—

All her doubts, fears, and misunderstandings…

Faded.

Her voice came out softly.

"I…"

Ethan held his breath.

"I like you too."

His eyes widened in shock.

For a second—

He couldn't believe it.

Katrina looked at him, her cheeks slightly flushed.

"I do like you…" she whispered.

Under the quiet night sky—

Two hearts finally spoke the truth they had been hiding for so long.

And in that moment—

Everything changed.
