Chapter 48 - Unseen Eyes

Unsaid Truths, Unseen Eyes

Evening—

Katrina stood in her room, pacing slowly.

Her thoughts were loud.

Too loud.

Katrina (thinking):

That's it… I have to talk to him.

I can't keep ignoring this feeling anymore.

She picked up her phone.

Ethan was outside, leaning casually against a wall, talking to Eric on call.

"Yeah, I'll come later," Ethan said, a faint smirk on his face.

"Don't disappear again," Eric replied jokingly.

Ethan chuckled. "Relax."

The call ended.

Just then—

His phone rang again.

Katrina.

Ethan looked at the screen for a moment.

Then picked it up.

"Hii."

His tone was calm.

Almost too calm.

"Katrina."

"Hii…"

Her voice was soft.

There was a pause.

Then—

"Can we meet?" she asked.

Ethan hesitated for a second.

Then replied,

"Yeah… sure."

Katrina quickly stepped out of her house.

The evening air felt cool, but her heart felt restless.

She walked toward the nearby park.

Each step felt heavier than usual.

A few minutes later—

Ethan arrived.

But something about him felt… different.

His posture.

His expression.

Even the way he walked.

More confident.

More distant.

Katrina looked at him carefully.

Trying to understand what had changed.

Ethan stopped in front of her.

"Hii, Katrina. How are you?"

His tone was casual.

Like nothing was wrong.

Katrina didn't answer immediately.

She just looked at him.

Observing.

Noticing.

Ethan shifted slightly.

"Tell me… what did you want to say?"

Katrina took a small breath.

"Ethan… I've been noticing something."

Ethan's expression didn't change.

"What?"

"You don't pick my calls… you don't text me like before…"

Her voice softened.

"What happened?"

Ethan hesitated for a moment.

Then quickly replied—

"Oh… actually, I've just been a little busy lately."

He shrugged lightly.

Trying to brush it off.

Katrina looked at him.

Her eyes searching for something real.

"But you feel different…"

Ethan frowned slightly.

"Different? What do you mean?"

Katrina lowered her gaze.

"Because you don't care like before."

Those words—

Hung between them.

Ethan looked at her.

For a moment—

Something flickered in his eyes.

But it faded quickly.

"It's not like that," he said.

His tone was calm.

But not reassuring.

Silence.

Then suddenly—

Ethan turned slightly and said,

"Come on… let's walk."

Katrina looked at him.

Then nodded softly.

"Okay…"

They started walking side by side.

The park was quiet.

Only the sound of leaves moving gently in the wind.

For a moment—

Things felt normal again.

Almost like before.

Katrina slowly relaxed.

Her steps matching his.

Her heart calming down.

But Ethan—

Was quieter.

Not nervous.

Not shy.

Just… distant.

From afar—

A pair of eyes watched them.

Eric.

He stood at a distance, leaning against a tree.

A smirk slowly forming on his face.

Eric (thinking):

So I was right…

He watched carefully—

The way they walked.

The way Katrina looked at Ethan.

Eric's eyes narrowed slightly.

Eric (thinking):

He doesn't just like her…

He's dating her.

A faint laugh escaped his lips.

"But how…" he muttered to himself.

"How did she even choose him?"

His expression darkened slightly.

Eric (thinking):

A girl like her…

Rich… popular… beautiful…

And him?

A quiet… boring guy?

He shook his head.

"Rich people are weird," he whispered.

But then—

His eyes sharpened.

Something else began to grow inside him.

Not curiosity.

Not surprise.

Something darker.

Eric (thinking):

No… this doesn't feel right.

He looked at Katrina again.

Eric (thinking):

I have to do something about this.

Back in the park—

Katrina smiled faintly.

Trying to hold onto the moment.

Trying to believe—

That everything was still okay.

But somewhere—

Far beyond what she could see—

Something had already begun to change.

And this time—

It wasn't just distance.

It was something… dangerous.
