Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 — The Sound of Gunfire in a World of Swords

------------------------

Edward Foley died on an ordinary night.

There were no heroic last words. No dramatic realizations. Just rain falling against asphalt and headlights growing too bright.

He remembered thinking one final, absurd thought.

*I never even got to finish that strategy game.*

Then came impact.

Then silence.

---

Warmth returned first.

Not pain.

Not darkness.

Warmth.

Edward inhaled sharply, lungs filling with air so fresh it almost hurt. The scent was unfamiliar—wet grass, soil, smoke, and something metallic.

He opened his eyes.

Blue sky stretched endlessly above him.

Clouds drifted lazily as if nothing in existence had ever gone wrong.

"…What?"

His voice sounded younger.

He sat up quickly.

Grass brushed against his hands. Real grass. Not hospital sheets. Not pavement.

A breeze passed through nearby trees, carrying distant shouting.

Edward froze.

Shouting.

And screaming.

He turned toward the noise.

Below a gentle hill lay a village straight out of medieval history—wooden houses, stone wells, dirt roads.

And it was burning.

Flames devoured rooftops while armored figures ran between buildings carrying swords and shields.

Knights.

Actual knights.

Edward blinked repeatedly.

"…Okay," he muttered slowly. "Either I'm hallucinating… or—"

A monstrous howl cut him off.

Something burst through a house wall.

It resembled a wolf—but grotesquely wrong. Its body was oversized, muscles twisting beneath dark skin, fangs longer than daggers dripping with saliva.

Another followed.

And another.

The knights formed a defensive line.

Steel clashed against claws.

They were losing.

Edward's heart pounded.

*This is real.*

A child's cry rang out nearby.

He turned.

A young girl stumbled from an alley, chased by one of the monsters.

His body moved before logic could catch up.

"HEY!"

The creature turned toward him.

Golden eyes locked onto his.

Predator and prey.

Edward immediately regretted shouting.

"…Bad idea."

The monster lunged.

Time seemed to slow.

Then—

A translucent blue screen appeared before his eyes.

**[MILITARY CHEAT SYSTEM — INITIALIZING]**

**User Identified: Edward Foley**

**World Compatibility: Confirmed**

**Authority Level: Supreme Command**

---

"…What?"

The beast closed distance rapidly.

New text flashed.

---

**[Emergency Threat Detected]**

**Deploy Units?**

**YES / NO**

---

Edward stared at the options.

His brain screamed confusion.

But the child behind him screamed again.

He didn't hesitate.

"YES!"

---

The air shattered.

A thunderous crack echoed across the hilltop.

Light erupted in a straight line before him as if reality itself had been cut open.

Figures emerged.

One.

Five.

Ten.

Twenty.

Men clad in unfamiliar camouflage uniforms appeared instantly, boots striking ground in perfect synchronization.

Black rifles raised.

Helmets turned toward the charging monster.

One soldier spoke calmly.

"Target acquired."

Edward barely had time to breathe.

"FIRE."

Gunshots exploded across the battlefield.

**BANG. BANG. BANG.**

The sound was deafening.

The monster collapsed mid-leap, body torn apart before it even reached them.

Silence followed.

Smoke drifted from rifle barrels.

Edward's ears rang.

The soldiers turned toward him simultaneously.

Then saluted.

"Awaiting orders, Commander."

Edward stared, mouth slightly open.

Behind them, knights and villagers watched in absolute disbelief.

One knight dropped his sword.

"…Magic?" he whispered.

Edward looked at his trembling hands.

He had expected death.

Maybe heaven.

Definitely not this.

A medieval world.

Monsters.

And an army that obeyed him without question.

The system window flickered again.

---

**[INITIAL DEPLOYMENT SUCCESSFUL]**

**Command Authority Established**

**WELCOME, COMMANDER.**

---

Edward swallowed.

Far below, more monsters poured into the village.

Flames spread.

People screamed.

The soldiers waited.

For him.

For his decision.

He realized something terrifying.

These men would do anything he ordered.

Anything.

His voice came out quieter than he expected.

"…Protect the civilians."

Instant response.

"Yes, Commander."

The squad moved with mechanical precision, advancing downhill in formation.

Gunfire roared again.

And for the first time since arriving in this world—

Hope appeared on the battlefield.

Edward watched them go.

A single thought formed in his mind.

*In a world ruled by swords and magic…*

*I brought modern war.*

He exhaled slowly.

"…Guess I'm not dying today."

Below him, history changed with every trigger pulled.
