Chapter 6 - Rainy Confessions

The next morning, Ethan woke to the soft patter of rain against his apartment window. The city had woken up under a gray, misty sky, and the streets glistened with fresh rain. He rubbed his eyes, still thinking about last night—the image of Bella laughing with another man haunted him. His pride and insecurity had pushed him away, but deep down, he knew he hadn't wanted to leave her.

He sighed, staring at the ceiling. "I can't let this go… I need to clear things up," he muttered to himself.

Meanwhile, Bella was already awake in her penthouse apartment, pacing back and forth. Her mind kept replaying Ethan's sudden departure. She hadn't meant for him to feel hurt or excluded, and the thought of losing him over a misunderstanding tightened something in her chest.

"Why is he so stubborn?" she whispered, pulling her phone toward her. After a few moments of hesitation, she typed:

"Can we meet? I want to explain."

Moments later, her phone buzzed with a reply:

"Fine. Coffee. 3 p.m. Little Bean."

Bella smiled faintly. "Good. It's a start."

By mid-afternoon, the rain had slowed to a drizzle. Little Bean Café smelled of coffee and rain-soaked streets outside. Bella walked in, slightly damp from the drizzle, shaking her umbrella free of drops. She scanned the room and spotted Ethan sitting in the corner, a nervous tension visible in the set of his shoulders.

She approached slowly. "Hi."

Ethan looked up, eyes softening. "Hi… Bella."

They sat in silence for a moment, the air thick with unspoken words. Finally, Bella broke the silence.

"Ethan… I didn't mean for you to feel… left out or embarrassed last night. That man—he's just a client. Nothing more. I promise."

Ethan's jaw tightened, his pride still flaring slightly, but he forced himself to meet her gaze. "I… I know you said that. I just… I guess I let my insecurities get the better of me."

Bella reached across the small table, her hand brushing his. The touch was gentle, almost electric. "We're from two different worlds," she said softly. "I know that. But… maybe it doesn't have to matter."

Ethan swallowed, feeling the weight of her words. "Maybe… maybe you're right. I just… I've never met someone like you before. Someone real."

Bella's eyes softened, her fingers tightening slightly around his. "And I've never met someone like you, Ethan. Someone honest, grounded, who makes me forget… everything I thought I had to be."

They sat together, the soft sound of the rain against the windows providing a backdrop for their conversation. They shared fears, laughed at small mistakes, and slowly, the tension began to dissolve.

By the time the café was closing, both felt lighter, the bond between them deepened. The misunderstanding had not only been cleared but had also brought them closer. Ethan realized that Bella's world wasn't meant to intimidate him—it was just another part of her life, and he could share a part of his world with her too.

Bella, on the other hand, realized that her heart had already started leaning toward him. She didn't care about status, wealth, or public opinion. All she wanted was honesty, connection, and someone who saw her—not the CEO, not the heiress, but her.

As they stepped outside, the drizzle had stopped, leaving the streets sparkling. Ethan held the umbrella over both of them, and Bella laughed softly.

"You're full of surprises, you know that?" she said, her voice warm.

"And you?" Ethan asked, smiling. "You're full of contradictions… yet somehow perfect."

Bella felt her cheeks warm. "Careful… flattery might work too well on me."

They walked side by side, the rain-slick streets reflecting the city lights, and for the first time, both felt a sense of hope. Their worlds were different, yes, but perhaps love didn't need perfect alignment. Perhaps it just needed… courage, honesty, and a willingness to try.

And as they walked, sharing quiet conversation and laughter, neither could deny it: something real had begun.
