Chapter 2 - Just another day

Morning sunlight streamed through the small apartment window, illuminating the sleeping figure lying on the bed in a halo of golden light.

Adrian quickly turned his face away from the light, pulling the messy blanket around his body, desperately clinging to the last vestiges of sleep.

Unfortunately, his phone blared loudly from the side cabinet, shattering the last hopes of rest he had left.

Adrian swung his feet onto the ground as he discarded the messy blanket on the bed, dragging his weary body towards the bathroom, a tired groan escaping his lips.

What I would do for five minutes of sleep.

He walked into the small bathroom, turning on the sink before splashing the cold running water onto his face, the chil snapping him back into into reality as he raised his head to stare at his reflection in the mirror.

Water drops fell from his long black hair, tracing paths down his sharp, oval-shaped face before falling into the sink.

His hazel brown eyes drifted downward towards the scar barely visible above his collar bone as his mind racing back to distant memories.

His face twisted with anger, loud yelling, a single outburst of rage.

A loud crash, people gasping and screaming, sirens wailing as they approached closer from the distance.

He tore his gaze away from the scar, a cruel reminder of a past he wanted to forget and turned to prepare for the day.

After a quick bath, he dried himself off and slipped into a simpleblack T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans. Grabbing his phone,p keys and wallet before making his way out the door.

With his finances hanging by a thread, Adrian had to juggle multiple part time jobs and right now that meant racing around the city making deliveries for a restaurant.

He left the apartment complex and made his way through the slowly filling streets beneath the pale morning haze. Reaching the nearest bus stop he leaned against the lamppost and waited patiently.

Soon enough, the bus arrived, and he filed in quickly, paying the driver before sliding into a window seat on the left aisle, he rested his head against the glass, looking at the passing buildings with a blank stare.

I wonder how Kyle's doing we haven't met up in a while now. He thought to himself.

A faint smile found its way to his lips as old memories began to resurface, when both of then would joke around in class, the girls always hanging around him thanks to his charming personality and good looks. After school, they'd walk home together often ending up on some daring expedition fueled by his love for thrill seeking.

Leaning back in his seat, Adrian let his mind wander down memory lane, unfortunately that trip had to be cut short as the bus arrived at his stop. He stepped down and the vehicle quickly sped off with a growl of it's engine.

Adrian's thoughts returned back to his old friend. He's been busy for the last few months but I'll see if he's free today.

He pulled out his phone and sent a quick text message to meet at their usual spot.

He put his phone back in his pocket and strode into the restaurant. The place was full of customers having their breakfast while engaging in conversation.

Altogether, the place gave off a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Adrian walked past the busy dining area and made his way to the back.

The noise of the dining area faded as he pushed past the double doors into the kitchen. The heat hit him first, followed by the aroma of cooked dishes about to be served.

His gaze landed on a tall, muscular man calmly issuing instructions as staff moved around him, his calm yet authoritative voice bouncing off the walls.

he turned like he could feel someone looking at him, his eyes finding Adrian instantly and a friendly smile spread on his face.

"Adrian" he called out and stretched his hand out for a handshake

"Good morning Mr Drew" Adrian received the strong handshake.

"Haha I see you're still as firm as always" he chuckled along with some staff, loosening his grip on Adrian's hand. "You've got some deliveries to make, come on let's go outside."

Both of them walked out the back door into the alley way next to the restaurant.
