Chapter 32 - A New Strategy

The young morning sun slipped shyly behind the peaks of the Black Dragon Mountains, illuminating the dust particles dancing wildly over the Evernight Gate training grounds. The morning air no longer carried the scent of dew and old moss, but a symphony of new aromas that roused the work ethic: the savory steam of beef bone broth from the communal kitchen, the smell of freshly shaved teak, and the pungent aroma of stone powder from the grinding of the main pillars.

Yoe Choin stood upright on the second-floor balcony of the main pavilion, resting his hands on the wooden railing that still felt rough under his palms. His glowing blue eyes no longer saw just a pile of dead stone and wood; he saw energy lines, load-bearing points, and defensive projections that he had begun to mathematically construct in his head.

"Gwi-Hyuk,"

Choin called without looking back. His voice was calm yet possessed with authority that cut through the silence of the balcony.

Gwi-Hyuk, the "Silent Shadow," emerged from the darkness of the corner of the room as if he were part of the structure itself. He stood a step behind Choin, giving quick but informative hand signals.

"How much Black Iron material did we manage to secure from Elder Gong's storage yesterday?"

Choin asked, squinting, observing the disciples who were beginning to gather in the courtyard below.

Gwi-Hyuk gave a visual report with his finger movements. In his mind, Choin quickly translated each code.

"Enough to reinforce the main gate frame and create armor plates for our core team, Young Master."

"Good,"

Choin murmured.

"Listen, Gwi-Hyuk. Give some of those materials to the blacksmiths. Tell them to stop making thin, easily broken swords. I want them to forge large, specially designed nails like the fastening bolts on heavy construction cranes. Our current wood joints are pathetic. If there's a massive Qi collision, this building will collapse like a deck of cards."

Choin sighed, his logic as a construction foreman working.

"Those bolts need to be grade 10.9, according to my calculations, not the brittle grade 8.8 they've been using. We need structural stability, not just aesthetics."

Gwi-Hyuk nodded slowly. Although he didn't understand the term "grade 10.9," he recognized his master's serious gaze. He disappeared back into the shadows to carry out the instructions.

Choin descended onto the training field, each step creating static pressure that made the students around him reflexively straighten their backs. The brutal dawn training under Instructor Ma had transformed their faces from lazy losers to hardened material.

His sharp eyes scanned the rows of students doing their cool-downs, until his gaze landed on a giant figure doing push-ups with three large rocks on his back. It was Jin-Pyo.

"Jin-Pyo, stop for a moment,"

Choin ordered.

The large man immediately jumped to his feet, his breath ragged, creating steam in the cool morning air, but his eyes shone with excitement.

"Yes, Young Master! Is there any manual labor that requires my services?"

Jin-Pyo asked in a chest-thumping voice.

"Not just manual labor, Jin-Pyo,"

Choin looked at him with the gaze of a manager selecting field foremen.

"I need individuals with above-average load capacities for a special unit that I will personally train. I'll call it the Demolition Unit."

Some of the other students began whispering. Choin continued addressing the entire group.

"This unit's task isn't just hand-to-hand combat. Your job is to be a moving wall and destroy enemy defense structures. You will be reinforced concrete pillars ready to be poured into the foundation of the Evernight Gate's defenses."

After a thorough analysis using the "Foreman's Eye," Choin selected five members from Class 2 and three from Class 1 who had the most stable physical development. In his eyes, they were no longer mere warriors; they were fixed assets, their Qi density beginning to resemble a steel structure.

That afternoon, the sun, beginning to set in the west, cast long shadows across the study, now filled with technical maps drawn by Choin himself. Before him, Baek-Un, the strategist, was slowly sipping his wine, but his sharp eyes never left the lines of the blueprint on the table.

"Baek-Un, I want you to transform the entrance to the main pavilion into a controlled destruction zone,"

Choin said, pointing to a point on the map.

"We will use the principle of a construction labyrinth. Enemies who enter will be lured into a narrow area where their Qi distribution will be disrupted by the frequency vibrations of the Black Iron bells we will install underground."

Baek-Un fell silent, his fingers stroking his rough chin.

"What a crazy vision, Young Master. You don't want to kill them with the sword, but you want to destroy their 'internal balance' using the building's structure?"

"Exactly,"

Choin replied calmly.

"A building can become a weapon if you know where your opponent's gravitational weaknesses lie. If this works, even an attack from the Orthodox faction will be halted at the front door, as they will feel as if they are climbing an iron mountain with crippled legs."

Baek-Un chuckled briefly, a newfound respect for his young master. "I will translate this insane vision into Murim warfare tactics. Evernight will become a deadly labyrinth for anyone without your operational authorization."

The study door opened slowly, revealing Han So-Wol carrying a stack of scrolls of reports. Her face was no longer as stern as it had been when Choin first returned to the sect. A hint of independence and a hint of security now shone in her eyes.

"Young Master," So-Wol greeted in a much softer but still professional tone.

"All the funds seized from Elder Gong's residence have been allocated according to the financial blueprint you created."

He placed the report on the table, next to Baek-Un's strategy map.

"We've secured our winter food supplies and have enough Black Iron reserves to renovate the main pillars. However..."

So-Wol swallowed, her voice lowering slightly.

"There's bad news from the underworld."

Choin raised an eyebrow.

"About the bounty on my head doubling again?"

"Not only that,"

So-Wol replied.

"Some 'Demon Inspectors' from neighboring sects have been spotted monitoring movements in Shady Dragon Village. They know you recently acquired the Black Crow Guild. They suspect we're illegally expanding our project lines without paying tribute to them."

Choin grinned faintly, a smile that held the cold logic of a foreman facing the threat of sabotage from a competitor.

"Let them see, So-Wol. The more they lurk, the more data we give them to scare them. Get Liem and Gowon to tighten patrols. Don't let any foreign material into our territory without my signature."

So-Wol stared at Choin for a moment, sensing his steady aura of leadership.

"Yes, Foreman. I will ensure every silver coin continues to work to strengthen our foundation."

Night descended with a stifling silence on the mountains. Inside his room, Choin was meditating, trying to stabilize his Internal Finishing Level 3 energy. Within his inner space, Moen Kang Yo's soul sounded wary.

"Foreman... do you feel it? The air tonight feels too 'dry' for the mountains."

"I know, Boss Demon,"

Choi replied in his mind.

"Frequency analysis indicates a slight vibration in the wind."

TING!

The sound of the paper window shattering rang out. A small arrow with a bound letter shot out at lightning speed, but Choin shifted his head only a few millimeters with terrifying precision. The arrow lodged itself deeply into the main teak pillar of his room.

Choin opened his blue eyes, rose from his bed, and approached the pillar. He drew the arrow and unrolled the letter. There, only one symbol Kang Yo knew all too well: the Withered Plum Blossom, the symbol of the Orthodox faction of the Mount Hua Sect.

But this time, there was an additional note written underneath in red ink that smelled of blood:

"Dear foreman, if you want the Evernight Sect to remain a wreck, so be it. But you have touched an area that doesn't belong to you. Meet me at the border bridge tomorrow night. Bring that shadow ledger, or I will personally raze your entire building to dust."

Choin crumpled the letter until it crumbled into tiny pieces in his palm. His eyes glinted with challenge.

"Apparently, the inspectors from the Orthodox faction can't wait to conduct a live field audit,"

Choin hissed softly.

"Good. I also need to measure the tensile strength of their plum swords before I complete my deadly maze."

Outside, the night wind blew harder, carrying the message that the renovation phase of the Evernight Gate had now turned into an open war for the integrity of the power structure in Jianghu.
