Silence fell over the living room.
"That's right," Nina Jacobs said. At first, she hadn't made the connection either.
"No wonder you asked Paisley Paige to look into that..." Wendy Marshall said.
Paisley worked at the base hospital, making it easy for her to access the hospital's mortality records. Sure enough, Nina had started suspecting the whole story a few days ago.
"At first, I was just wondering why it had to be Caleb Carter," Nina explained.
Soul Slayer hadn't offended anyone, nor did they have any enemies at the base. Cassia Quinnie didn't even know Caleb prior to this.
"Later, I realized that the target of the penalty cards didn't necessarily have to be Caleb. If someone else had saved Cassia that day, they would have met the same fate."
