Chapter 50 - The Hunger And The Stranger

(BLUE'S POV) 

I was starving.

The hunger had started two days ago as a dull, gnawing ache, something I thought I could ignore if I just kept myself distracted. But by yesterday, it had turned vicious.

It wasn't ordinary hunger. It felt like poison moving slowly through my veins, cold and merciless, like frostbite spreading beneath skin that should have been warm. Every inch of me ached with it. My body felt hollow, brittle, like I was being eaten alive from the inside.

I had lied straight to Mason's face.

"Poor blood circulation."

Such a pathetic excuse.

I'd said it so casually, as if it explained why my skin had lost what little color it usually had, why I had gone from pale to something almost inhuman—ghostly, nearly translucent beneath the light. The truth was far uglier. Every vampire carried this pallor like a curse etched into their existence, a mark that no amount of pretending could ever erase.

But I couldn't tell him.
