(MASON'S POV)
My stomach sank like a stone. The shock slammed into me so hard my knees almost gave out beneath me. That was definitely vampire speed. The blur, the unnatural suddenness—it was exactly how Blue moved when he slipped into that "Crazy Blue" state. And Victor had just done the same thing.
Victor.
The guy I'd always assumed was just another student at school. Arrogant, secretive, weirdly intense sometimes—but human. At least, I thought he was.
My thoughts spun wildly, my heartbeat stumbling in my chest. 'Oh God. No one is human anymore. No one.' The realization crashed over me, cold panic tightening around my throat. Without thinking, I moved behind Blue again, clutching his arm tightly as I peeked past him.
Blue's voice hardened, protective edge sharpening every word. "What the hell are you doing here, Victor?"
Victor didn't even react. No guilt, no hesitation—just a casual shrug, almost playful, like he hadn't just scared the living daylight out of me.
